I believe in helping people put the pieces back together. I specialize in trauma issues, self esteem , depression, sex addiction and sexual trauma. Often trauma has a long lasting, but unknown effect on people. Resolving trauma leads to previously unknown levels of fulfillment. When a persons self-esteem is well functioning, their relationships often are also connected and intimate. Sexual addiction is treated in a stigma-free manner. I treat my clients with dignity throughout the process and facilitate a shame-free recovery.

You are a whole person- mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and relational. Your health is holistic- mind, body, and spirit. Challenges in life lead to feeling broken and operating out of a small fragmented piece of the heart, a small piece of who you are- and unfortunately this piece oftentimes magnifies the ache, gets the biggest vote, and has the loudest voice. This fragmented way of living leads to low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, etc... It doesn't have to be this way. I want to partner with you and help you take your next step toward healing these hidden places and stepping into wholehearted living.

Distressing symptoms in the present often are anchored in distressing, disturbing, or traumatic situations in the past and by addressing the anchors clients often report feeling free in the present to become their authentic selves and accomplish their goals. I wanted to become better prepared and so studied beyond basic EMDR training to become a Certified EMDR Therapist with the International Association (EMDRIA). Primarily I work with veterans, adults, and young adults that struggle with past unresolved trauma or distress, PTSD, over reactions, anger, anxiety and fear, impulsivity, low self esteem and confidence, emotional self regulation, depression, substance abuse, and eating disorders.

Specialties include: relationships, anger management, communication, self esteem , divorce recovery, and issues of faith.
Moving through life is like writing a book. We are all composing our own stories. Sometimes we get stuck, due to choices, events or behaviors. It’s like a bookmark getting put in the pages of our story and when we try to move forward, the pages fall open to that bookmarked, painful memory. With the help of therapy, we can heal from that pain and take the bookmark out of the book of our life. The pages remain, but they serve to make us stronger & wiser as we fill in the empty page before us today. By learning new skills and gaining the ability to adapt, we can move forward with a sense of purpose and peace.

Our life’s journey begins the moment our heart begins to beat. Our path is marked by significant people and experiences impacting our attachment, mindset, and worldview. Some are positive and some are painful, both leaving a lasting impression that reflect in our identity, self-esteem, and sense of purpose. I seek to walk alongside my clients as they find meaning in those relationships and experiences. I am considerate of the story my clients have to tell and offer a compassionate space to meet them where they are, and offer an authentic therapeutic relationship.

I feel I can help people who have struggled with life and are now ready to talk about their experiences. People who have been wounded may blame themselves and have difficulty with self-esteem and trust issues. I believe clients need to feel safe in a therapeutic relationship. Besides being sensitive and empathetic, I am a strength based therapist. We will work together as a team not only to uncover past pain but to strengthen parts of yourself that are strong and encouraging.

Some days it just feels extra hard to human; to know and understand what you are feeling, and how to be in relationship with your family and friends. It can feel overwhelming and even lonely trying to navigate life and the world around us. We so deeply want to be seen, to be understood, to be heard. You are looking for answers, and yet, the process to the answers can feel messy and murky.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
