Im currently accepting new clients. I’m a licensed clinical social worker, and for over thirty years my work has centered on what matters most to the people I meet: finding real relief from suffering. Whatever you’re carrying right now, you’ve found a caring and experienced place to start. My hope is to help you feel lighter, steadier, and more like yourself again. Wherever you are in your journey, you don’t have to figure it out alone, and I’d be honored to walk alongside you.

I use several treatment methods including: supportive counseling, cognitive behavioral counseling, somatic therapy, and mindfulness.
Frequently, I work with adults who are having over whelming anxiety or frustration. I am effective at helping them with loss and accepting changes in their lives they fear or resent. I'm most comfortable working with adults who are challenged by emotions and thoughts they have tried their best to control and are disappointed when the symptoms return.

Coping with trauma, whether from past experiences or the demands of your career, can feel overwhelming. Especially when those around you don’t fully understand. As a former firefighter-EMT, I understand the realities of high-stress careers and the toll they take. If you’re a first responder, medical professional, or someone who has faced deep emotional wounds, the impact of constant exposure to trauma can leave you feeling drained, disconnected, and unsure of how to navigate the road to healing. You deserve support that acknowledges your unique challenges.

At the Center for Humanistic and Interpersonal Psychotherapy, we believe that an essential starting point is getting to know the individual, their strengths and challenges, their values, and what they want from therapy. Each individual is different; therefore, each therapy experience needs to be designed specifically for the person entering therapy. Individuals enter psychotherapy and counseling for varied reasons, including personal growth, relationship problems, life transitions, traumatic experiences, environmental stressors and challenges, depression, anxiety, and more. Individuals entering therapy also seek out diverse outcomes. Through getting to know the individual client, our therapists help clients find solutions to the challenges that bring them to therapy. We tailor our psychotherapy approach to each individual, their specific needs, and their desired outcome.

You think deeply about everything — including what's been causing you pain. You've read the books, you contemplate (or ruminate!), and you reflect. You can trace your patterns back to where they came from. And that self-awareness is real. It matters. But at some point you noticed that understanding something and actually feeling different are two completely different things.
You're not falling apart. You're disciplined, capable, the person others rely on. You've built a life that looks right from the outside. But there's a distance between who you are in public and what you actually feel — and you're tired of managing it.

I am passionate about helping people work through major life transitions, which can so often be accompanied by complicated feelings, including grief and pain. As we move along each of our journeys, some moments need more time to process and be witnessed. Becoming a parent, losing a loved one, moving, loss/change of a job. I want to help honor these changes by holding space with patience and a compassionate understanding.

Using Somatic Experiencing and EMDR, we’ll identify the parts of your life that are working, as well as the patterns that no longer serve you.
It’s Wednesday night, and you’re up late again binging Netflix. You have to get up early, but you’re terrified of going to sleep where the nightmares lurk. When you finally doze off, it feels like only moments before your alarm starts to blare. Waking you to face another day, more stressed and exhausted. At the office, an innocent interaction with a coworker triggers memories of your trauma. You become caught in that moment again. Your heart races, palms sweat, and every nerve is on edge, ready to leap into action. You just want to run away. Get in your car, start driving, and never look back. But there’s no way to outrun yourself.

In our work together, you'll experience both talk therapy and somatic (body-based) therapy.
Hi. Are you someone who is worn-out and drained from always caring for others? You know you "should" take better care of yourself, but you feel guilty, or it's just hard to stop doing for everyone else. Maybe you've said something like, "I can relax when everyone around me is ok", or "I can't be ok when my partner is (insert emotion here)", so you try to help them feel ok, so that you can feel ok? Or maybe you are an empath who simply absorbs whatever others feel.
"I just need to care less!" might be an impulse that makes a lot of sense, but the solution isn't caring less, it's in caring from a full cup rather than an empty one.

By providing a caring, compassionate, and free space to express past traumas, disruptive thought patterns, and confusing life circumstances, I create a meaningful and tailored healing experience for each client. Through counseling, clients can begin to experience the power behind their own convictions and step into a position of power over their own internal landscape. I believe in dismantling oppressive systems and harmful patterns within individual's lives through meaningful and powerful therapeutic intervention. Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
