**I am NOT currently accepting new clients.** I am a firm believer that we are not meant to go through our lives alone, but that often life's struggles can leave us feeling alone and isolated. Even when our well intended friends and family try to help us, sometimes there are just things that they aren't equipped to help us with; and we can end up feeling more alone and misunderstood than we did before. Whether you are grieving the death of a loved one, dealing with PTSD, depression, anxiety, divorce/break-up, co-parenting, chronic illness , or other challenging life curve-balls, I am here to walk alongside you.

At Safe Haven Family Therapy , we help both partners (virtually or in person) break loose from these patterns in their relationship, bringing couples back to the relationship they miss and so deeply desire.
Everyone sees your “perfect” relationship, telling you how lucky you are to have your partner by your side. You smile and nod in agreeance, but behind closed doors, you know the truth: tension, fighting, lack of intimacy, exhaustion with one another, and constant miscommunication. You feel like you are constantly walking on eggshells, never knowing what will lead to the next fight or night in complete silence. You have tried hard to fix these issues but are losing energy, and frankly losing hope.

Trained in Family Systems, I work with individuals, couples and families. I am client centered and a bit more directive and goal oriented rather than passive. Your time is valuable. I want to see you get results. I offer clients resources and "exercises" to work on between sessions if you desire or you can simply work in sessions if you are too busy (many of us are!). I respect your background, values, beliefs, ethics, faith and what you bring to the process. We will collaborate in this process. You are the expert on YOU but I will give you ideas to help maximize your process.

She has extensive experience helping clients work through depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, self-harming behaviors, family issues, and relationships.
Healing and growth is not always a linear process. Often, before we can become who we’re meant to be, we first need to unlearn and understand who we’ve been. Erica Laskin believes that being an effective counselor and coach means developing a personalized approach for each individual client. By combining elements of clinical therapy and life coaching, Erica offers her clients an extra layer of support and guidance along their journeys.

I have a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy , a Bachelors of Science in Applied Psychology and a post graduate Certificate in Counseling Children and Adolescents all from Regis University.
Families are beautiful and complicated. I believe we are born into complex systems, then we go and mess those systems up further by adding more people to them. Our interactions with other people inform what we think and how we feel about ourselves. People thrive when they belong in healthy relationships with connection, communication and joy. This systemic lens informs my work with families, couples and individuals.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
