I have decades of experience in the fields of personal growth (since 1990) and mental health (2004); I've developed an approach based on Internal Family Systems (IFS), gestalt, and other models, called Conscious Heart Integration (CHI). It's gentle and transformative, and many clients say it's different than anything else they've tried. CHI goes beyond talk therapy. Of course, effective treatment includes being witnessed, heard, and deeply understood, but there is much more possible in healing spaces. Somatic , parts-based, and transpersonal models have opened the door for more experiential, holistic, and transformational treatment.

I value the relational aspect of the therapeutic relationship, honoring where the person is in their current life situation, and strive to support individuals in meeting their highest potential. I enjoy working together to strengthen one's resources toward healthy functioning and deeply believe in the inherent health of each person I work with. Being trained in both psychotherapy and complementary healing techniques allows me to truly work with individuals in a wholistic manner.

I specialize in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy ( Somatic ), Art Therapy, and EMDR to support your process.
Your thoughts are racing-examining what you did, or could have done, wondering if you are over-thinking the situation. You try to pretend everything is okay but deep down there is a nagging feeling that something is off. So you work on doing all of the right things, trying to fix yourself, trying to improve, but the feeling inside doesn't change. You may even over-perform in attempt to prove to yourself and the world that you are worthy. But the feeling lingers. Many of my clients have had similar struggles with anxiety, perfectionism, self-doubt, trauma histories, or difficulty feeling comfortable in relationships.

As a Somatic Counselor, I work from an understanding of how our thoughts and emotions are necessarily intertwined with our body - internally with brain wiring and externally through behaviors that communicate when words do not. My focus is challenging emotional states and helping adults, partners, and families resolve what the resulting behaviors may be trying to communicate. Specifically, I work with anxiety/ptsd, depression, anger, health crises/fear of death or abandonment, low self-esteem, and grief. Together we choose methods that feel like a fit to meet your circumstance. Ultimately, the goal is empowerment.

I specialize in blending somatic trauma therapy and attachment repatterning. This kind of work is most effective in treating issues that traditional talk therapy has the hardest time treating. Incorporating ketamine into this approach allows quicker access to incredibly deep and subtle personal material.

To better understand who I am as therapist, it is important to know that I am a somatic informed therapist.
I love working with couples! A flourishing relationship gives us access to a more fulfilled life. When we feel seen, understood and supported...we thrive! In couples work, we better our skills in communication, vulnerability and emotional regulation...the result: more empathy, patience, forgiveness, tolerance and resiliency during painful anger, conflict and difference. It is my sole purpose to help individuals cultivate meaningful connection and trust within themselves and their partners. Don't let old stories and stuck behavior keep you from learning, expanding and healing. I do believe in hope and transformation!

I also incorporate Somatic Resourcing and Affect Regulation.
Not everyone looking for a counselor has an understanding of what's "off" in their current experience, and that's okay. We don't always know what it is we are looking to heal from or grow through, but there's an awareness of wanting or needing that healing and growth. In my practice, I work with adolescents and adults to help identify areas of life that aren't contributing to a life well lived.

Somatic therapy engages both the mind & the body.
Reaching out can be insanely difficult and vulnerable at times, I get it. Come in, have some tea, see if the connection feels right for you. I'm here to offer my heart, love, guidance, resources and a safe cozy space for sharing and moving through what may be stuck or needing extra attention. I am here to wade through the gunk with you and also to help you see through and beyond it. At times that means I might direct and re-direct you away from the story, away from the chatter and the thoughts and into your body, connecting with your nervous system, with your sensations, with your authentic self.

We all contain the inner wisdom to heal ourselves and move towards being an authentic, positive and loving person. The courage to be vulnerable -by moving toward our pain and confusion as well as our joy- utterly transforms and frees us. I am honored to enter into the sacred space of therapy together with my clients. I use an integrative, trauma informed, and strength based approach combining empathy, mindfulness, and radical acceptance as well as a plethora of therapeutic tools (ie--imagery, parts work, role play, body/ somatic awareness). I have a passionate social justice orientation and am experienced in a wide breadth of issues.

You've probably discovered that life has presented you with a myriad of curve balls. Perhaps traumas from your past are lurking beneath the surface, waiting to be unveiled. Maybe you even notice your body sending you signals that something "feels off", or feel stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns and crave to break free. Waking up to our realities is a vulnerable and brave act, which can oftentimes feel frightening. I hold space for all of these experiences. Through trauma-informed psychotherapy and somatic (body-based) interventions, we will safely enter into a deep healing process for lasting change together.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
