Life is not meant to be endured—it’s meant to be lived with safety, belonging, and purpose. Yet so many of us find ourselves just surviving. We feel disconnected from ourselves, overwhelmed in our relationships, or uncertain about how to move forward. When stress, conflict, or trauma take hold, it can leave you feeling like you’ve lost your footing. The good news is you don’t have to stay stuck. Healing is possible. At Ancient Sage, therapy is not just about reducing symptoms—it’s about restoring your wholeness.

If your mind feels like it’s constantly buzzing and you can’t seem to turn the volume down you’re not alone. Maybe you’re tired of overthinking every little thing, feeling anxious for no reason, or replaying old moments that still hurt. Life can get messy, between stress, sadness, relationships, or old wounds that show up uninvited. It’s easy to feel lost or stuck. The good news? You don’t need to have it all figured out to start. I’m passionate about helping people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma, as well as those simply trying to reconnect with themselves after feeling burnt out, unseen, or disconnected.

I'm a licensed clinical psychologist with over 30 years experience. Psychotherapy should be client-driven, and honest dialogue and feedback helps me select the best approach for each person. This may mean shorter term work focused on a few concrete issues or longer term work changing enduring ways of relating, behaving, or managing mood and emotion. My experience working in medical settings has been especially helpful understanding health issues that my clients might be managing as well. My office is easy to find, accessible, and has a terrific mountain view.

It often takes incredible courage to seek support when facing difficulties! Life can throw a lot at us that can leave us feeling discouraged, alone, and unsure of how to approach things. Taking the brave step of reaching out for therapy, we can start the journey towards processing experiences, identifying barriers and patterns, and exploring strategies and resources for finding a way forward.

Stress, anxiety, and emotional turmoil increase due to various life situations and relationship difficulties. Occasionally, we need professional support to help us navigate these challenges, particularly when our own problem solving and coping skills are not working anymore or to our satisfaction. Communication is a key ingredient to any successful client-therapist relationship. Therapy can help an individual experience increased stability and calmness when they are feeling out of control or overwhelmed. Therapy is a place to share the burden you may be carrying alone.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
