Your anxiety makes sense. Let that sink in for just a moment. We’re taught that any form of emotional discomfort is something to avoid or get rid of, but you’re likely reading this because everything you’ve tried isn’t making this discomfort go away. What if you could see emotions (whether pleasurable or painful) as hints to be compassionate and go towards self-exploration? What if you could learn to see your partner’s emotions as cues for you to lean in and get curious about what lies beneath? As a highly skilled and empathetic clinician, I can help you to learn how to find wisdom in your emotional cues.

I have an affinity for working with adolescents and adults who find themselves experiencing challenges related to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, or who find themselves simply longing for a space to be compassionately supported and witnessed in navigating the joys and pains of human life. I work best with those who feel drawn to looking at their challenges not only from a solution-focused and intellectual vantage point, but also from the perspective of radically befriending the present-moment experience of their bodies and minds.

You might feel dissatisfied with your relationships, career, or direction in life. You might be confused about what you want, how to proceed from here, and where to get help. You've felt alone in your pain and possibly embarrassed about needing help. Maybe you are struggling with intimacy issues. Perhaps your problems are sexual. You desire to truly connect with your partner (or find a partner) but do not know how. You know you'd like to feel deeply satisfied in your body, heart, sex, and mind. You'd like to provide another this deep satisfaction.

Beginning therapy can be one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make, and I want you to know how much I honor the courage it takes to pursue a more connected, authentic life for yourself. I work with clients in pursuit of the insight and self-compassion necessary to identify needs and progress toward goals. So often, unconscious dynamics and inherited patterns of behavior dominate our lives. These processes usually exist beneath or outside of our conscious awareness. My role is to help you encounter the truth of your life, while embodying enough kindness to change.

Are you looking to deepen your therapeutic journey beyond what CBT and other “talk therapies” can offer? Are you interested in exploring a more short-term therapeutic approach for a few specific issues? Do you want to experience altered states of consciousness substance-free? Try Hypnotherapy! One client described working with me as, “An immersive experience into my subconscious that was actually energizing! I’ve been in therapy my entire adult life. I wish I had known sooner that this is an option!” Hypnotherapy is great for neutralizing anxiety, phobias, childhood wounds, codependency, self-sabotage, addictions and more.

I approach therapy as a collaborative process for you to enter into a relationship with a therapist to seek change for yourself. I believe therapy is a supported journey of self-discovery to explore your internal emotions, strengths, and resources—and to discover how your inner world, your relationships, and your external circumstances all interact. As a therapist, I will do my best to: help you identify goals and potential solutions to challenges; help improve your own coping and communication skills; support the strengthening of your self-esteem and self-compassion; and, promote desired behavior change and optimal mental health.

Psychotherapy is not always about focusing on the problems in life but is often more about solution building. Although it acknowledges present problems and past causes, it predominantly explores your current resources and future hopes – helping you to look forward and use your own strengths to achieve your goals. It works by helping you to overcome problems using solution building concepts to foster change and helping you to develop a set of clear, concise and realistic goals. I help individuals, couples and families find their way again. I am a LGBTQ+ affirming, and gender-affirming therapist.

My passion is supporting parents who have experienced difficult births. Bringing another life into this world is an important and challenging experience. Whether you are the individual who gave birth or a witness, there can be immediate and/or lasting waves of physical and emotional difficulties that may effect your life. These paths are unique to each of us because every birth is important and impactful. My work is to listen and journey with you as you explore your birth story and the impacts it has had on your life. Although this is an area of focus, I work with adolescents and adults needing support in other areas of life.

Sex-Positive, Kink Allied Therapists

Why might an individual want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?

A sex-positive or kinky individual may want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist because the client may feel safer and more supported discussing their experiences and challenges. A therapist who identifies as kink-friendly will have experience with clients having diverse sexual preferences and will likely be nonjudgmental and supportive about issues brought to the table. It is important to note that sex-positive, kink-allied individuals may find equal success with therapists who do not have such specialized knowledge and background. The most important factor in the success of therapy is for the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in sex-positive, kink-allied treatment?

Generally, no. There are limited training programs and unofficial accreditations that therapists can pursue, but a therapist’s expertise will ultimately come from their previous experience with similar clients, their engagement with organizations that promote sex positivity or kink-allied lifestyles, and the importance they place on safety and cultural sensitivity.

How can individuals recognize a good sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?

An experienced therapist is able to help clients explore their sexual identity and expression and relieve any discomfort or stigma attached to discussing such matters and the client’s overall challenges. A therapist who is sex-positive and kink-allied is able to create an environment that honors a client’s experience and sexual preferences. To recognize a good therapist, clients can simply ask directly about topics and issues important to them and gauge their comfort level and connection with a clinician based on the responses.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist with a focus on sex positivity and alternative sexual lifestyles?

Some individuals may feel most comfortable knowing that the clinician they’re working with has a commitment to creating an atmosphere of sex positivity and has experience with relationship diversity and alternative relationship structures. Working with a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist may help clients respect their own challenges and improve identity-affirming treatment.
