Life can be a lot of things. Sometimes that's a variety of emotions or thought processes that are far from ideal and moving forward seems impossible. My approach to therapy is that we are collaborators, working toward the resolution you see for yourself.

Therapy can feel intimidating or unfamiliar, and it’s normal to wonder what it will be like to open up. No matter what you are navigating (ADHD, anxiety, addiction, trauma, grief, identity, negative thoughts, difficult family dynamics, etc.), it's a possibility that you might feel stuck, overwhelmed, afraid of judgement, or unsure where to begin sorting through these challenges. Here, I will collaborate with you to help you feel understood, supported, and capable of handling life’s roadblocks while fostering meaning and promoting a comfortable space. I hope to help you to feel loved and more human at the end of each and every day!

Hi! My name is Denisse Manzano and I'm a bilingual psychotherapist from Mexico City living in Denver. I work with adults who feel stuck in recurring patterns, disconnected from themselves, or unsure how to move forward in their lives or relationships. Many of my clients are thoughtful, open-minded, and curious about understanding themselves on a deeper level. A lot of my work focuses on helping clients identify unconscious patterns, past experiences, and relational dynamics that may be shaping the way they move through life so they can begin making choices from a place of awareness rather than repetition.

Do you feel overwhelmed with every day life? Do you feel like you are going through the motions but not really living? Do you feel like you are caring the constant weight of managing all the things while also trying to take care of your own needs? It does not have to be that way. So often we are told that the overwhelm, stress and lack of vitality is normal but it is time to let go of the 'shoulds'. If you have been struggling to connect with your authentic self due to past trauma, current life transitions and/or "juggling it all", you are in the right place.

If you’ve experienced challenges rooted in childhood trauma, you’re not alone. Many adults find that early experiences quietly shape how they see themselves, respond to stress, and relate to others. Sometimes, the effects of trauma are invisible, showing up as reactions to feelings that don’t always make sense. These patterns aren’t faults—they’re ways you learned to cope. PTSD isn’t a life sentence; it’s an injury that can be healed with compassionate support and the right tools. If you’re ready to begin a journey toward understanding and healing, reach out today for a free 30 minute consultation. Let’s take the next step together.

If you're struggling, I want you to know it doesn't have to be so hard, and you don't have to go it alone. Together we can begin to understand and cope with emotions and situations which can seem overwhelming. Relationships can create such powerful movement in our lives, and offer real hope. I share a profound respect for your choice to begin therapy, and will provide a non-judgmental space to express yourself. Anxiety, loss, transition -- often these struggles give us opportunity to grow and deepen our knowledge of ourselves.

Relationships are an important part of the foundation of our lives, both the relationship we have with ourselves, and the relationship we have with others. The relationship we have with ourselves can be challenged by internal conflict, feelings of being stuck, and fears that stops us, causing our lives to be unsatisfying. Since we 'live' in all 3 time periods, the past, present, and future, we want to make sure that our past 'stories' are not interfering in our present lives. And then by understanding what our fears are, we can have a better view of the future. Overall, we can become more present. Secondly, the relationship we have with others is influenced by how we're doing, so getting our own 'house' in order will help us be better in relationship! We can experience less defensiveness and more openness. Counseling is an unique opportunity to reconnect with ourselves and others. It's an opportunity to pay attention to parts of ourselves that we try to ignore. It's also an opportunity to have the life that you want and deserve.

Psychoanalytic Therapists
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
