My counseling style integrates Internal Family Systems therapy, mindfulness-based counseling, attachment work, and
EMDR
trauma therapy.
When you experience trauma and/or attachment wounding in your life, you can feel out of touch with your true Self. You may be living in survival mode, constantly trying to protect yourself, or acting out of fear and scarcity, without confidence that you are stable and strong at your core. You may be able to keep it all together…as long as nothing unexpected happens. Living in this state feels exhausting! This can adversely affect relationships, daily functioning, mental health, physical health, and spiritual health. You don’t have to continue to live like this.

As a trained and certified
EMDR
trauma therapist, I will devote myself to assisting you in the healing of PTSD, caused by a traumatic single event, developmental or complex trauma.
Trauma is an invisible injury to others and often to ourselves. Once visible, healing can happen. If not acknowledged, a trauma injury can leave you vulnerable to a reactionary process called PTSD. Our logical (left) brain cannot reason with the emotional pain, leaving you in a reactive cycle, causing a fight, flight or freeze response. I will assist you in reprocessing the trauma memory held in the creative (right) brain to alleviate the stuck emotional pain and restore your ability to have reasoning power, logical outcomes and return to your natural state of wellbeing. I am certified in
EMDR
. Call for a free 30 min consultation.

I use a type of therapy called
EMDR
to help with this.
Despite your best efforts to move forward, you're feeling stuck. The past is keeping you from focusing on the present, and you’re spinning your wheels again. You’re tired of facing constant setbacks all alone because it’s isolating and exhausting. Confusion, frustration, and negative patterns are keeping you feeling trapped. It’s awful feeling this way, but there is a path forward. You don't have to feel stuck forever.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
