Pajama Forward Therapist here! If white knuckling, self shaming, and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps worked, you’d be “cured” a billion times over. It doesn’t. At least not for me or people whose brains are different. Our minds race and it feels impossible to turn off and rest. Sometimes we use substances or other behaviors in a harmful way just to get through the day. There’s more to life out there. A more peaceful and meaningful life is possible. We need to go deeper and get to the root of things. I’ll go with you. Unable to take insurance

I am a trauma expert with years of specialized training in treating survivors (all types of childhood abuse, sexual assault, religious, etc).
No matter what you are going through, I am here to help! I believe that the therapeutic relationship is essential in getting results. There is a lot of information out there, books, podcasts and social media, it can be hard to know where to start. These resources work best as adjuncts to therapy. Information alone makes us smarter, but not necessarily emotionally healthier or better at being in satisfying relationships (with self, others or the world). A therapeutic relationship between two real-life humans offers the opportunity for connections and experiences that can lead to growth, contentment, creativity and healing.

It is a challenge to address the stressors of adulthood while simultaneously realizing that there is childhood trauma that has never been processed.
Are you someone who has a constant inner-dialogue running through list after list of tasks to address? While there is nothing unhealthy about productivity, there are steps that can help relieve that pressure and help you be able to celebrate wins and take breaks from the ever-present inner dialogue!

I have experience treating depression, anxiety, grief/existential concerns, trauma, and relational issues.
The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are: This quote was written by Carl Jung, a psychoanalyst well-known for his work in dream analysis. This exemplifies the philosophy I bring to counseling and my life overall. I take an empowered approach to counseling which believes we all hold the necessary answers within ourselves, sometimes we just need a qualified guide to help in our self-exploration. Suffering is a natural part of the human experience, and I seek to work with others to have greater agency and understanding over this suffering.

For over 12 years, I have been helping people gain clarity during challenging times. As with most therapists, I got into the field to work on myself. I have years of lived experience making mistakes, losing relationships, and self-destructive behaviors, so you will find no judgement here. What you will find is someone who will help you be honest with yourself and others. Please give a call if you think we might be a good fit. Due to conflict of interest, I am NOT able to work with veterans. Virtual only, weekday evenings after 5:30.

I am EMDR-trained through the EMDR Training Academy, along with training in Complex Trauma and Motivational Interviewing.
You have tried to change. You grit your teeth and power through. You convince yourself that you are “fine”, but honestly, everything feels as crappy as it did before. You want to be and behave differently…what if all you need is a little guidance? What if your brain and body could do what they were designed to do…and healed themselves? You might have found this page and this profile with a head and heart full of doubt and you’re wondering if therapy is total bunk. I hear you. It can certainly seem that way, sometimes...but what if it’s not?

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
