Pajama Forward Therapist here! If white knuckling, self shaming, and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps worked, you’d be “cured” a billion times over. It doesn’t. At least not for me or people whose brains are different. Our minds race and it feels impossible to turn off and rest. Sometimes we use substances or other behaviors in a harmful way just to get through the day. There’s more to life out there. A more peaceful and meaningful life is possible. We need to go deeper and get to the root of things. I’ll go with you. Unable to take insurance

My goal for each individual I work with is that we improve the balance they have in their lives. This often occurs by shifting perspectives within ourselves and of the world around. Participating in consistent evaluation with each other helps maintain this balance over time.

Together, you and I can figure out what your substance use goals are (reducing damage, decreasing frequency, sobriety, etc.) and make an actionable plan to help you reach that goal.
As a person who is in recovery from substance use myself, I encourage a non-judgmental, open and warm atmosphere to explore your questions about your use. I thrive off of actionable plans and results. We won't spend sessions talking aimlessly, you will walk away from each session with a new skill, insight, or direction.

I am a Christian counselor/coach and I am passionate about helping men experience freedom from compulsive behaviors and, as a result, a deeper connection with God, themselves, and others. I specialize in helping men struggling with addictive and compulsive behaviors like pornography, sex, drugs, alcohol, food, work, video games, relationships, etc. After more than 20 years of experience, I have found that true lasting healing does not happen in isolation. Weekly recovery groups provide the accountability, honesty, and brotherhood required for lasting transformation. That is why I now fully focus on the power of group work.

I also specialize in supporting first responders and healthcare workers, as well as veterans struggling with the transition to civilian life including PTSD, complex grief, relationship challenges, sleep, substance use, stress, thriving beyond disability, career exploration and work/life balance.
Do you feel like you're just surviving or realize you're not managing stress in a way you feel good about? Maybe it shows up in your mood or energy level, your habits, relationships, sleep, your spending or how much caffeine or other substance you use to change how you feel. Do you notice you procrastinate or avoid certain things, lack feeling fulfilled, struggle to refill your battery day to day or question your abilities? Or maybe you feel like you're doing decently well, but are finding it hard to truly thrive. Everybody gets stuck or lost sometimes. You don't have to figure this out alone. There's strength in accepting help.

You may be feeling stuck, exhausted, or tired of repeating patterns you know are not helping anymore. Addiction, anxiety, depression, shame, anger, avoidance, or relationship struggles can leave you disconnected from yourself and unsure how to move forward. Many people I work with are not broken; they are trying to survive with coping strategies that once made sense but no longer support the life they want. I help clients build self-awareness and emotional intelligence that allow them to take practical steps to create change in daily life.

You’ve spent a lot of time trying to figure yourself out—or just hold it together. Maybe you’re burned out, masking, overwhelmed, or always feeling a little “off” or "pressured" in a world that wasn’t built for your brain. I work with neurodivergent folks (ADHD, autism, dyslexia, deep feelers, sensory-sensitive souls) who are tired of pretending and ready for therapy that actually fits. This is a space to unlearn shame, get curious about how your brain actually works, and start living in a way that makes sense for ALL of you, not just the parts of you that make others comfortable.

At Floreciendo Counseling, therapist Viridiana works with adults navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, or past experiences. Together, we create a space where you can feel truly understood. I especially support individuals navigating immigration, first-generation experiences, and cultural identity. Viridiana’s approach is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered, recognizing that each story is shaped by your relationships and lived experiences. The goal is not to change who you are, but to walk alongside you in your growth toward a version of yourself that feels more grounded, empowered, and at peace.

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
