Pajama Forward Therapist here! If white knuckling, self shaming, and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps worked, you’d be “cured” a billion times over. It doesn’t. At least not for me or people whose brains are different. Our minds race and it feels impossible to turn off and rest. Sometimes we use substances or other behaviors in a harmful way just to get through the day. There’s more to life out there. A more peaceful and meaningful life is possible. We need to go deeper and get to the root of things. I’ll go with you. Unable to take insurance

I have experience treating depression, anxiety, grief/existential concerns, trauma, and relational issues.
The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are: This quote was written by Carl Jung, a psychoanalyst well-known for his work in dream analysis. This exemplifies the philosophy I bring to counseling and my life overall. I take an empowered approach to counseling which believes we all hold the necessary answers within ourselves, sometimes we just need a qualified guide to help in our self-exploration. Suffering is a natural part of the human experience, and I seek to work with others to have greater agency and understanding over this suffering.

On the many paths we walk in experiencing our lives, we encounter difficulties and challenges. "In a dark time, the eye begins to see", Theodore Roethke. We may be tempted to avoid or run from these challenges, however, when we can learn to be with them, we learn that these are moments in which a deeper sense of being is trying to emerge. When we work with and move through life's conflicts, we contact and may draw upon a vast reservoir of resources within and without that serve to clarify our sense of value and purpose, aiding ourselves and others by underlining our own unique gifts and skills.

I currently work with adults navigating trauma, grief, attachment patterns, codependency/people pleasing, anxiety, depression, caregiver stress and burnout, as well as with the unique challenges faced by 911 Professionals.
You’ve spent time reflecting. You have insight into your patterns. And yet—something still isn’t shifting in the way you hoped. You might notice: Old experiences still feel present, not fully in the past; Your nervous system stays on high alert; You appear "fine" on the outside but feel overwhelmed, anxious or triggered underneath; You can’t quite think your way out of certain reactions; You are an expert in taking care of everyone else or "people please" but you're not sure what you need or how to take care of yourself; Patterns keep repeating, even when you understand them; Traditional talk therapy hasn’t been enough on its own.

In cultivating peace, we may need support in managing difficult emotions or working through a loss or traumatic experience.
Creativity can illuminate our path to healing. Becoming whole again is within reach when we are willing to explore the thoughts, beliefs and images that inform and guide us to our own inner knowing- our own light. Art therapy is a valuable approach, allowing us to bypass limitations of language and use imagery for insights.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
