Pajama Forward Therapist here! If white knuckling, self shaming, and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps worked, you’d be “cured” a billion times over. It doesn’t. At least not for me or people whose brains are different. Our minds race and it feels impossible to turn off and rest. Sometimes we use substances or other behaviors in a harmful way just to get through the day. There’s more to life out there. A more peaceful and meaningful life is possible. We need to go deeper and get to the root of things. I’ll go with you. Unable to take insurance

My approach is trauma-informed, queer-affirming, ENM (poly, swing lifestyle, open relationships, relationship anarchy), BDSM & kink-friendly, and compassionate.
Are you ready for the healing and growth that comes from setting boundaries and communicating directly while remaining gentle and respectful? Are you seeking to increase self-awareness and develop a more meaningful understanding of who you are, coming out, your sexual orientation, desire/libido, gender expression, or identity? Sexual difficulties can increase depression, anxiety, isolation, and hopelessness. Whether you are newly coming out, dealing with desire discrepancies, navigating relationship difficulties, or struggling with past trauma, you deserve to feel respected, heard, understood, and safe.

You’re motivated and resilient, yet stuck in a cycle of overthinking, self-criticism, and putting others’ needs before your own. You might feel like something is wrong with you—numbing, hiding, or working endlessly just to get by. Trauma, depression, and anxiety are constant companions despite self-help, relationships, or coping strategies. Addictive behaviors and relationships have become the norm. You feel hopeless and utterly exhausted. If you’re seeking healing beyond surface fixes that is personal, deep, and lasting, you’re in the right place.

Yes, it is crazy “out there” and sometimes the “crazy” within makes it difficult to discern where one ends and the other begins. “It’s overwhelming, I don’t know why…It wasn’t always like this.” “I find myself frozen in the middle of it all wondering where I fit in, what’s it all about?” “Why am I here?” “I don’t know who I am.” Let’s talk…using a variety of therapeutic approaches together we can move through and process the events, situations, experiences, etc. that have you immobilized. I believe in treating the whole person and employing different therapeutic modalities based on what aligns with you and your needs.

As a white, queer, AFAB, partially disabled woman, I believe every person deserves respect and to find their own happiness in their own mind and body, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental abilities, or other socio-cultural identities.
If you want to dive in and do the hard work of processing and healing your trauma, empowering yourself by learning more about your nervous system and how your emotions, thoughts, and actions all affect one another, while developing your ability to cope with ongoing life stressors I may be a good match for you. I believe that every person has the wisdom in their mind and body to heal from their traumas and strengthen their coping skills. My role is to guide and support you on your journey. I lead with empathy, compassion, and unconditional positive regard to my clients. My job is not to "fix" anyone.

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
