Pajama Forward Therapist here! If white knuckling, self shaming, and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps worked, you’d be “cured” a billion times over. It doesn’t. At least not for me or people whose brains are different. Our minds race and it feels impossible to turn off and rest. Sometimes we use substances or other behaviors in a harmful way just to get through the day. There’s more to life out there. A more peaceful and meaningful life is possible. We need to go deeper and get to the root of things. I’ll go with you. Unable to take insurance

I have years of experience working with adults of all ages, treating symptoms of anxiety, depression, insomnia, relationship difficulties, and other stress responses that can arise when life throws you a curveball.
One of life’s constants is that things are always changing. If you are feeling overwhelmed by a new season of life, or are ready to change your approach to a situation you’ve been in for awhile, therapy can be a really helpful tool to navigate those challenges. It’s hard enough to go through life transitions like career changes, parenting, caregiving, retirement, aging, chronic health conditions, grief/loss; then add in high stress, little sleep, symptoms of depression or anxiety–it’s a lot to manage!

While I love treating teens and adults from any background, I'm especially passionate about helping people navigate trauma, anxiety, depression, dissociation, and self-esteem challenges, always through a strengths-based lens.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or tired of repeating the same painful patterns, you're not alone—and you don’t have to navigate it alone. I help clients explore the roots of their pain while building tools for healing; I love helping people feel more secure in their minds and bodies, and more connected to their inherent value. Grounded in warmth and compassion, I offer a safe space to process trauma, anxiety, depression, and self-worth challenges. My approach is flexible, strengths-based, and focused on helping you reconnect with your resilience and sense of self.

I have been helping children, teens, and adults since 2012.
For over 12 years, I have been helping people gain clarity during challenging times. As with most therapists, I got into the field to work on myself. I have years of lived experience making mistakes, losing relationships, and self-destructive behaviors, so you will find no judgement here. What you will find is someone who will help you be honest with yourself and others. Please give a call if you think we might be a good fit. Due to conflict of interest, I am NOT able to work with veterans. Virtual only, weekday evenings after 5:30.

I'm Katia, and my primary focus is working with individuals who experience anxiety, stress, depression, and general life adjustment issues. When we meet, the time is yours to talk about whatever is important to you. There is no agenda or expectations from me, and I am there to listen and support you. Thanks for taking a look at my profile, and I hope to meet with you soon!

You have tried to change. You grit your teeth and power through. You convince yourself that you are “fine”, but honestly, everything feels as crappy as it did before. You want to be and behave differently…what if all you need is a little guidance? What if your brain and body could do what they were designed to do…and healed themselves? You might have found this page and this profile with a head and heart full of doubt and you’re wondering if therapy is total bunk. I hear you. It can certainly seem that way, sometimes...but what if it’s not?

Although Shemeah spent over 30 years working in child and adolescent therapy, she has since embraced serving adults through individual and couples counseling.
Yes, it is crazy “out there” and sometimes the “crazy” within makes it difficult to discern where one ends and the other begins. “It’s overwhelming, I don’t know why…It wasn’t always like this.” “I find myself frozen in the middle of it all wondering where I fit in, what’s it all about?” “Why am I here?” “I don’t know who I am.” Let’s talk…using a variety of therapeutic approaches together we can move through and process the events, situations, experiences, etc. that have you immobilized. I believe in treating the whole person and employing different therapeutic modalities based on what aligns with you and your needs.

FAQ - About Adult Counseling
Why should adults see a therapist?
Adults may benefit from therapy for a wide range of reasons—whether it’s managing symptoms of a diagnosed mental health condition like anxiety or depression, navigating life transitions, coping with grief or trauma, or simply seeking support during a challenging life period. Many adults find that therapy helps them build healthier coping skills and better process their emotions, which may lead to better relationships and reduced stress. It’s important to note that, unlike psychiatrists or primary care physicians, therapists do not prescribe psychiatric medication. However, they will often work alongside prescribing clinicians to ensure coordinated care and can provide behavioral therapy as an important addition to psychiatric medication. Mental health concerns can look different in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence, so finding a therapist with expertise working with adult clients is important. Conditions like major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for instance, may present or resurface differently in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence. Adult-specific stressors, such as job strain, caregiving responsibilities, relationship challenges, financial stress, or identity transitions, can also influence the onset and type of symptoms an individual experiences. Adult-focused therapists, therefore, are trained to understand these complexities and tailor care accordingly.

How do I know if a therapist is the right fit for me?
When seeking care, it’s important to understand a therapist’s treatment specialties and their overall approach to treatment . Some therapists focus on common adult conditions like anxiety or depression, while others specialize in areas such as trauma, substance use disorders, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. It’s also important to consider a therapist’s training when seeking care. Therapists hold various licenses depending on their training and state requirements. Common therapy credentials include Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs), Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs), and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs). Psychologists (PhD or PsyD) receive additional doctoral-level training and may focus on assessments or more specialized therapeutic approaches. All of these professionals can provide talk therapy but do not prescribe medication. When searching for a therapist, consider their credentials and training background to ensure a good fit.

How do I find a therapist who sees adults?
Psychology Today’s online directory allows you to search specifically for therapists who work with adults. Each provider profile includes key information such as clinical specialties, therapeutic approaches, licensure, accepted insurance plans, languages spoken, and session fees. Reviewing these details can help you determine whether a particular provider aligns with your needs and can indicate whether they are a good match for adult clients.
