Therapists for Teens and Adolescents in Loma, CO
Pajama Forward Therapist here! If white knuckling, self shaming, and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps worked, you’d be “cured” a billion times over. It doesn’t. At least not for me or people whose brains are different. Our minds race and it feels impossible to turn off and rest. Sometimes we use substances or other behaviors in a harmful way just to get through the day. There’s more to life out there. A more peaceful and meaningful life is possible. We need to go deeper and get to the root of things. I’ll go with you. Unable to take insurance

I am glad you are looking for a counselor. I know it is a difficult thing to reach out for help (I know it was for me), but it is really a courageous thing to do. I enjoy fighting for people's hearts and helping them to find freedom and healing from depression, addictions, and/or relational issues. I would consider it an honor to journey with you!

The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are: This quote was written by Carl Jung, a psychoanalyst well-known for his work in dream analysis. This exemplifies the philosophy I bring to counseling and my life overall. I take an empowered approach to counseling which believes we all hold the necessary answers within ourselves, sometimes we just need a qualified guide to help in our self-exploration. Suffering is a natural part of the human experience, and I seek to work with others to have greater agency and understanding over this suffering.

Many couples find themselves stuck in painful cycles of conflict, distance, or misunderstanding—even when they care deeply about one another. I have been working with couples to understand and change these patterns for years so they can address crisis, strengthen connection, navigate conflict, and rebuild trust. Even people in relationships that feel stuck or discouraged can often find new understanding and a way forward. When this isn't possible or the goal, I work with client's to work through the difficult challenge of separation.

Not everyone feels at home in traditional therapy.
Many of my clients come to therapy exhausted from surviving for too long while still trying to appear “fine.” They may feel overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, or tired of spaces where they’ve had to shrink, mask, or explain their humanity just to be understood.
My approach is relational, trauma-informed, and grounded in authenticity. Therapy with me isn’t about fixing you or fitting you into a clinical box, it’s about creating a space where your full self is welcome.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, parenting issues, stress, and school or relationship challenges.
You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. For some, that looks like anxiety that won’t quiet down, stress that feels constant, or emotions that are hard to manage. For others, it shows up in their child, behavior changes, school struggles, or emotional ups and downs that leave you feeling worried and unsure how to help. Whether you’re reaching out for yourself or your child, it often starts with the sense that something isn’t working and it’s time for support.

My ideal client feels overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally stuck despite being thoughtful and capable. They may be neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, or navigating trauma, family stress, identity questions, or major life transitions. Often they’ve been “the strong one” for a long time and are now exhausted, disconnected, or unsure how to trust themselves. They want relief, clarity, and tools that actually work—not pressure to perform or fix themselves—but a safe space to slow down and feel steadier.

Virtual in TX & CO. I enjoy helping people who struggle with life’s challenges. Occasionally, we find ourselves needing some assistance and guidance through day-to-day bumps in the road enhanced by anxiety and related concerns. I’ve worked with individuals through life changes and parenting challenges. For many years, I worked within the education environment and found first hand the effects of untreated or mistreated anxiety. Sense of self, avoidance, depression, social concerns, and family relationships are just a few of the challenges. When we learn about our values, strengths, and goals, a stronger sense of self is the outcome.

You may be the person others rely on—the one who keeps things steady when life becomes overwhelming for everyone else. From the outside, you might seem like you have it together, but internally you may feel stretched thin, stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, or simply tired of carrying so much on your own.
Many people come to therapy not because something is “wrong,” but because something in their life no longer feels aligned. You might notice recurring patterns in relationships, persistent anxiety, difficulty setting boundaries, or a growing sense that you’ve lost connection with parts of yourself along the way.

What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
