I know that as a parent, you want to imagine a wildly successful and happy future for your child. Watching them struggle with family and friends, act out in school, and/or participate in risky behaviors like substance use or self harm can turn that hope into devastating worry as you see them in pain and feel helpless to heal it. It may feel impossible to support them alone- and you don't have to. With research backed strategies and years of experience, I can help teens work through their struggles and towards a brighter future.

Everyone can benefit from therapy! I specialize in treating trauma, addictive behaviors, substance use , mood disorders, and anxiety.
You've heard the saying "everything happens for a reason". I believe this can be true, but there are also many occurrences in our lives that don't always make sense, even if we can still derive some sort of meaning from them. On more of a personal level, I believe our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are happening for a reason and I seek to help you find those answers. Oftentimes, these reasons are connected to past experiences, whether that be from your childhood or other significant moments in time. And depending on how you experienced that event, your perceptions about yourself, others, and the world have been impacted.

Do you have a teen with whom you are constantly at odds? Do you feel like every conversation ends up in a fight? Perhaps you see troubling behaviors and patterns emerging (e.g. substance use , pornography, concerning friend choices etc.) and you have no idea how to help. Conversations that once came with ease are now laden with problems and may make you feel you failed as a parent. If you are wondering if there is any hope at all, I'm here to tell you that there is.

I work with people who struggle with substance use and trauma, stress and depression, helping clients to get unstuck from old patterns that cause unhappiness. My experience has been that clients find the right answers and resolve their own issues, once they are able to talk through their struggles and look at them in a different way. My clients may struggle with addiction, anxiety, or trauma - we work for them to be able to "get out of the rut" they've been stuck in. I like to have a good feel for my clients' lives and emotions, and that only comes from really being present, so I work almost exclusively face to face.

Has someone in your life told you that drinking, or drugs are problem for you?... They're wrong! Your drinking is not the problem, it's a solution! Substances help us cope with the slings and arrows of life. Drinking is merely a symptom of something deeper with which you’re struggling. We need to get down to causes and conditions of your substance use . My name is Adam, I’m in long-term recovery from drugs and alcohol and I would like to give you something that was given to me. If you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, please call me. Let’s see if we’re a good fit for each other.

My role and purpose is to help people find their freedom in order to find deep meaning in life and to love freely. The people I see often feel diminished and beaten down by many things including substance use disorders, shame put upon them by others, early childhood trauma and the grief associated with living. In my practice I help people learn skills and ways to cope with their individual issues so that they are able to live with the pain and not in it. I work with many modalities of treatment including Rapid Resolution Therapy used to treat trauma. I provide Acudetox to all my clients at every session for no additional fee.

I look forward to meeting people who are motivated and ready for change in their life. Therapy can take a lot work and time to recover from life stressors and traumatic events. I invite all individuals that are seeking support with anxiety, depression, life balancing & coaching, family, couples or marital issues, recovery from traumatic events, substance use /abuse to reach out to me. The first step to change is reaching out for help, that's the most difficult part in the healing process. No challenge is too small or large to engage in the healing process.

The focus of my practice is on issues related to substance use , codependency, anxiety, depression and general self-esteem.
Everyone wants to feel seen, heard and understood. We all have stress and experience challenging situations. We also have the capacity to overcome these challenges and reduce that stress. I believe a therapeutic relationship is built on trust and understanding. I use aspects of mindfulness, CBT and DBT to meet my clients where they are at. I like to provide a therapeutic environment that encompasses empathy, growth and encouragement. The power to change your life starts with you.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
