My experience has been primarily with teens and young adults who are dealing with anxiety and past trauma. I work well with clients who need help moving forward in life and figuring out how to take the next step. I’ve spent many years working with members of the Hispanic and Latino community, mostly with members of immigrant families and I’m bilingual in Spanish and English.

Throughout life we encounter numerous stressors, life changes, or traumas that impact our ability to fully experience the world in the way we want to. I am passionate about helping individuals and families become their best selves by encouraging them to work through trauma, be kinder to themselves, and maintain positive relationships with others. I have training in EMDR, which is an evidence-based practice that can help decrease the daily effects that are experiences from past traumas. Together we can create a collaborative and safe space for you to find healing and to enhance your relationships, with others and yourself.

Lost in familiar territory is how many couples and individuals describe themselves when they find their way to me. The landscape of their relationship or personal life feels crowded with a repetitive pattern of old reactions, misunderstandings, or emotions that show up faster than they can make sense of. They are not looking for quick fixes. They want a clearer map, steadier footing, and someone who can help them understand the terrain. They want things to feel different, to finally break the cycle that keeps pulling them back into the same pain. And they are ready for real help getting there.

Change can be difficult for children and adolescents. Adjusting to new circumstances, routines, and relationships can bring about intense emotions and challenging behaviors. These stressors often lead to a pattern of negative interactions and power struggles which can leave parents feeling frustrated, powerless, and even embarrassed. This is not the life that any parent envisioned for their child or teen, yet it can feel impossible to make any real change. With help, though, families can break this cycle. Parents and children can repair past rifts and develop new, positive opportunities for connection.

You’re used to being the capable one. The dependable one. The one who keeps going even when you’re exhausted. On the outside, your life may look steady. But internally, you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that trace back to earlier wounds. Maybe you’ve experienced trauma that still lives in your body. Maybe a major life transition: a loss, a faith transition, a relationship change that has shaken your sense of stability. Or maybe burnout has slowly eroded your energy and sense of self. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and you’re not broken.

Accepting new clients! Reaching out is never easy. Maybe there’s been something on your mind for awhile or you may have recently experienced a life changing event. In any case, it is a privilege to have you here. My goal is for you to achieve a more fulfilling life - maybe that’s less anxiety and depression. Perhaps it’s a deeper connection with friends and family. Other times it’s breaking free from past trauma, toxic relationships and dysfunctional patterns that prevent you from moving forward. Together, we will determine how to best reach those goals using your personal strengths, comfortable level and at your own pace.

Life changes can bring waves of overwhelm, anxiety, uncertainty, and even a sense of losing direction. It’s natural to feel challenged, especially as you navigate new experiences and shifts in your personal identity. Despite doing your best to stay afloat, there may be a part of you that craves something more—a life with deeper connections, fulfilling relationships, and a stronger, more assured sense of self. You deserve to feel empowered—strong, self-reliant, and truly in control of your own path.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Therapists
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work together effectively, but, especially for those whose concerns relate to their religion or cultural background, a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond, even if they do not have an extensive history with or understanding of their client’s background before therapy begins.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Church of Christ/Latter Day Saints values?
Each individual brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of therapeutic modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition such as LDS that strongly influences the conduct of everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process.

Why might someone feel comfortable with an LDS-attuned therapist?
While qualifications and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic effectiveness. It is wise to find a therapist who is responsive to your questions and concerns and with whom you feel you can establish a rapport. A therapist who is sensitive to LDS values and beliefs and the role they play in the lives of Church members can offer Mormon clients a welcome sense of safety, assurance that their community and culture will be understood, and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, all of which support the therapeutic process.

How do I recognize a good LDS therapist?
LDS therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Mormon principles and values. They have an understanding of the culture and the important role the Church plays in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of emotional difficulties those raised in the faith can be prone to. Like all effective therapists, a good LDS therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of everyday life.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Mormon/LDS therapists?
The directory of LDS therapists includes therapists who have shared their cultural background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information; these individuals would not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with LDS clients and/or communities, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
