I also pull from modalities other than talk therapy, including play therapy, DBT, and
EMDR
to help get at healing that words alone might not be able to achieve.
I love working with clients who are seeking a low pressure, warm, and sometimes humorous environment to work through some challenges that might be holding them back from their full potential. I work with children (3+), adolescents and adults looking to improve areas of their lives from experiencing life transitions, all the way to processing deep trauma, and everything in between. Goals in therapy differ from person to person but overall, it's all about bettering our experience of the world and how we can get the most out of it!

I am trained in
EMDR
therapy as well as have been a trainer for Motivational Interviewing.
I love working with children, teenagers, and adults struggling with behavioral concerns and mental health related issues. I find this work incredibly rewarding, to identify needs behind behaviors, feelings, and thoughts, and creating empathy and compassion beyond power struggles or difficult dynamics in order to improve family health and individual functioning. I believe firmly that trauma occurs in relationships and is healed through relationships. I greatly value the impact of healthy and safe relationships in therapy and beyond to create meaningful connections with others and to improve one's overall mental health and wellbeing

Hypnotherapy and
EMDR
are frequently utilized in my practice.
My approach includes blending Eastern and Western somatic modalities with cognitive and transpersonal counseling psychology. With a strong focus on mindfulness, this process allows you to become aware of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations and how they manifest in your body. Somatic psychotherapy differs from traditional psychotherapy in that it explores and relies on the wisdom of the mind-body-spirit connection as a powerful gateway for healing, expanding awareness, and developing resilience.

I use somatic-based
EMDR
, Natural Processing, as a technique to help people. In our lives, there are many ways we get hurt or experience things we do not like. Sometimes this feels inconsequential and sometimes we become aware it is problematic. When we begin to experience difficulties like anxiety, depression, physical symptoms and stress reactions, or emotional intolerance we may decide we want to change. I aim to support people in helping resolve these issues so they can live fully in the present, intentionally.

You've heard the saying "everything happens for a reason". I believe this can be true, but there are also many occurrences in our lives that don't always make sense, even if we can still derive some sort of meaning from them. On more of a personal level, I believe our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are happening for a reason and I seek to help you find those answers. Oftentimes, these reasons are connected to past experiences, whether that be from your childhood or other significant moments in time. And depending on how you experienced that event, your perceptions about yourself, others, and the world have been impacted.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
