Some of my specializations include:
anxiety
disorders, mood disorders, PTSD/trauma, eating disorders, self-injurious behaviors, and childhood disorders.
I believe; gaining insight and understanding, feeling more hopeful, knowing someone is there to listen, and being in a safe and non-judgmental environment, are just some of the important keys to therapy. One of the most difficult and courageous things someone can do is to walk into a clinician's office and ask for help. Sometimes people may hesitate to seek help because they feel alone in their pain or that no one will understand them. I work with clients ages two and older, from diverse cultural groups, and foster an atmosphere of understanding across these various age and cultural groups.

The populations I enjoy working with the most are adolescents and adults with
anxiety
and depression who are invested in improving their mental well-being. Together, in a welcoming, nonjudgemental, and empathetic relationship, we explore different ways of thinking to help alleviate their symptoms. Many of the expressed goals are addressed by identifying cognitive distortions, setting boundaries in relationships, and developing coping strategies to decrease negative symptoms.

I work with people who have struggled with substance use and trauma, stress and depression, working with clients to get unstuck from old patterns that cause unhappiness. My experience has been that clients find the right answers and resolve their own issues, once they are able to talk through their struggles and look at them in a different way. My clients may struggle with addiction,
anxiety
, or trauma - we work for them to be able to "get out of the rut" they've been stuck in. I like to have a good feel for my clients' lives and emotions, and that only comes from really being present, so I work almost exclusively face to face.

Sometimes, as we experience our life course, we come across situations, dilemmas or issues that are unexpected, unavoidable or life changing. This happens; it will always happen. As these circumstances develop, we tend to rely on the tools we have at our disposal to create the best outcomes we can. This is where my role is vital: my goal is to ensure that your tools are in suitable conditions that promote opportunities to put your best foot forward. Whether you are trying to reach a goal, address a persistent fear or
anxiety
, gain a better understanding of who you are, or something else, I'll use my skills and knowledge to help you.

I use somatic-based EMDR, Natural Processing, as a technique to help people. In our lives, there are many ways we get hurt or experience things we do not like. Sometimes this feels inconsequential and sometimes we become aware it is problematic. When we begin to experience difficulties like
anxiety
, depression, physical symptoms and stress reactions, or emotional intolerance we may decide we want to change. I aim to support people in helping resolve these issues so they can live fully in the present, intentionally.

I understand taking the step to enter treatment can be difficult, and I want to help ease that
anxiety
.
I implement effective psychotherapy methods to instill self-understanding and implementation of new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the client and the therapist. Health and wellness are a journey, not a destination, and I ask that you allow me to walk alongside you as you reach for your personal summit.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
