I utilize a
psychodynamic
, relational, and an EMDR based framework to help you dive inward to find underlying issues.
Struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, or however your distress manifests makes us feel trapped, in cycles of outbursts or avoidance, and coping in ways that are not sustainable. We blame ourselves bringing us further from feeling connected and closer to feeling ashamed. Typically what we see on the surface is mistaken for ourself and is our way to cope with the issues that lie underneath. Therapy is creating a compassionate and purposeful environment to dive into deeper issues, seeing how these issues present in daily life, and developing relevant skills to free ourselves from these issues.

What is stopping you from reaching your goals? Are you taking care of other people and not yourself? Everyone goes through stressful and overwhelming times. I know it can be difficult to seek guidance outside of your regular support system. I work along with my clients to help them overcome whatever is standing in their way. Together we will find more effective ways of understanding and coping. I have been in practice for over 20 years.

I use a person-centered,
psychodynamic
approach, borrowing techniques from motivational interviewing, CBT, DBT, narrative and reality therapy, case management, and life coaching to tailor myself to individual needs/preferences.
I know all too well what it's like to be living half a life, with substance use, various co-occurring mental health disorders, and life circumstances getting in the way of having healthy relationships, a stable career, and developing a sense of fulfillment and confidence in yourself. My goal is to help you achieve your life goals by identifying, understanding, and accepting your major obstacles in new ways, and using your unique strengths to work with them instead of against them to make them less daunting. I believe that you can solve any problem you're facing and my job is to help you get to a place where you can believe it too!

Even when things in life seem to be going well, we might still feel shut down or sad. For many, the feeling that there is always something bad waiting around the corner follows us daily. We worry, about nothing and everything. Hope is hard to come by. We may want to let go of a bad experience in the past, but it lingers anyways. It can invade our sleep, affect our body, direct our self image, and rule our emotions. Many of the challenges of the pandemic have left us feeling uncertain and scared. Too often, "just dealing with it" is the expectation. But that's not the only choice. We've done our best, now it's time to ask for help.

When navigating life itself feels daunting, I recognize that embarking on the counseling journey can feel equally so. When you feel lost, stuck, anxious, alone, or exhausted – and you’re just trying to figure out how you can make it through – it takes a tremendous amount of courage to reach out for help. Knowing this, I want to honor your efforts and provide you with a supportive environment to pursue both resolution and healing.

Are you struggling with feeling worthy? Does it feel like if you could just find the right self help book or self care tool, you’d also find a full connected meaningful life? Perhaps it's a traumatic experience, unhelpful patterns in your relationships, or undiagnosed ADHD keeping you stuck. As an experienced clinician I am convinced that we are all worthy, and it is only through developing that loving relationship with ourselves that we can feel worthy. When we learn how to like ourselves, how to LOVE ourselves, our relationships deepen, our sleep improves, and we are more able to take those essential steps to live our best life.

Life is complex, confusing, and sometimes difficult. Your past has a way of interfering with your present life as well as your hopes and dreams for the future. You may experience relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, or other issues that affect your life. You may have a desire to know and show up as your authentic self more in your life. I provide a therapeutic space for you to process the difficulties of your past and present, and venture to understand the patterns that prevent you from having the life that you want. Healing is a long journey that is best done in connection with empathetic others.

I'm a licensed social worker and a relationship/intimacy coach. I support folks in healing their past so that they can unlearn harmful patterns and learn to be fully present and fully-expressed in their life, relationships, and purpose. I am passionate about working with both individuals and couples in improving their communication and intimacy because these are fundamental skills needed in order to foster healthy relationships, and yet many of us were never taught to communicate our needs effectively.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
