Gottman Method Therapists in Lakewood, CO
I've completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy & use Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my work, to help partners to find hope in their most tender relationships.
It is a sacred thing to enter into your story. As voices and demands clamor for attention seemingly now more than ever, I want to create a therapeutic space that allows the noise to fall away and for your voice to be heard. Your life has such inherent value that I find it a privilege to walk alongside clients who want to find greater freedom from cycles of shame and self-defeating emotional roadblocks. Couples and individuals can benefit from someone hearing their stories, championing them on toward freedom to be who they were made to be and to walk in peace in their closest relationships.

You are feeling alone, unseen, unheard, and you are married or in a relationship. You thought that if you found the right person you wouldn't feel this way—but yet here you are. Somewhere along the way—through stress, conflict, distance, or a rupture—something shifted between you. This is more common than you think, and it can change. You want to feel connected again, to laugh, have fun together, and experience the things that brought you together in the first place. And you want to feel good again.

Are you capable, self-aware, and by all accounts, you’re "fine", but there’s a persistent gap between the life you’ve built and how you actually feel? Maybe it’s the 3:00am mental loop replaying every interaction from the day, or a sense of being lonely in a relationship that should feel like home. Coping skills and advice are great, but you want to understand the "why" behind the patterns that keep you stuck in these loops despite your best efforts. With a background in behavioral research, I bring a unique "under the hood" perspective to our work that will help you bridge the gap between what's "known" vs. what's felt.

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns they don’t fully understand — depression that won’t lift, anxiety that keeps narrowing their world, or a vague but persistent sense that something is “wrong” with them. A line from an Eagles song captures what I’ve witnessed again and again in my work: “So oftentimes it happens that we live our lives in chains and we never even know we have the key.” I became a therapist over a decade ago because I firmly believe that with the right blend of support and challenge, almost anyone can change unworkable patterns in his or her life.

I have a particular affinity for working with people who struggle with depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. I am passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families discover healthier and more constructive ways of communicating and interacting with one another. Some of my most rewarding work has been with clients who had been in therapy for years and considered themselves hopeless.

I use evidence-based treatments like EMDR for trauma, the Gottman Method and Emotion-Focused Therapy for couples, Family Systems for relational patterns, DBT skills for emotional resilence, and play therapy, including sandplay for children.
You don’t have to keep carrying the weight of past wounds or walking through life feeling disconnected, anxious, or overwhelmed. Whether it’s personal trauma, relational strain, grief, or one of life’s many transitions — it can leave you feeling like you’re stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand, repeating old roles, or just trying to hold it all together.
Maybe you’re noticing tension in your relationships — or within yourself. You might feel unseen, unheard, or unsure how to move forward. You may not even remember what ease, clarity, or connection felt like. But if you’re here, something in you is ready for change.

We all long to love and be loved — to feel safe, seen, and deeply connected. We long for playfulness and authenticity. Yet life, with all its beauty and its weight, often leaves us feeling isolated from ourselves and each other.
I offer a space where your story is honored, your body’s wisdom is welcomed, & where the patterns that no longer serve can begin to shift, & new emotional habits can take root, where your nervous system can gently relearn safety. Together, we’ll strengthen your heart’s capacity for resilience, intimacy, and enduring love, and build the emotional habits necessary to create the relationships you long for.

Relationships are an essential and critical part of the human experience. I specialize in working with all types of couples and individuals working on relationships, and I relish in the fact that I get to help couples with things like greater intimacy, stronger communication, and a true sense of partnership. Couples or relationship-oriented therapy, like any therapy, takes work, and I’m grateful to be part of that process for so many.

Hi, I’m Vlasi. You can call me V. I'm a psychotherapist based in Colorado. I work with adults who feel stuck in anxiety, trauma, chronic pain, or patterns of thinking, beliefs and behaviors that no longer serve them.
My approach is holistic, trauma-informed, and deeply attuned to the mind-body connection. I believe that most symptoms are not signs that something is “wrong,” but signals from a nervous system that learned to survive difficult experiences. Together, we work gently and practically to help your system feel safer, more regulated, and more resilient.

For couples, I apply Gottman Method principles to heal attachment wounds and deepen connection.
My ideal clients are children and adults who feel overwhelmed by life’s transitions or deep-seated wounds. They may be navigating the weight of anxiety and depression, or the specific pain of trauma. These individuals need a safe harbor where they can explore their identity and emotions without judgment. Whether it’s a child struggling to regulate big feelings or an adult trying to reconcile their past with their future, their goal is to find a sense of safety and "wholeness." They want to understand their own internal world so they can move through the external world with more confidence, peace, and resilience.

Gottman Method Therapists
How does the Gottman method work?
One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.
Is the Gottman method evidence-based?
Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.
How long does the Gottman method take?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.
Is the Gottman method effective?
Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
