My name is Maury, and I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, addictions, and grief/loss. My therapeutic style is collaborative, exploratory, and deeply existential. In our work together, we check morality at the door - right and wrong have no business in our work together. My goal is to help you reconnect with your inner world, help you to tell the truth (to yourself) about your deeply complicated life and rediscover meaning. In our sessions, we bring to light the deeper questions that quietly shape how you live. What happened to you? What matters to you? What gives your life purpose? What are you REALLY afraid of?

My expertise is in EMDR therapy although will often incorporate interventions such as somatic work, mindfulness practices, attachment theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, parts work, and polyvagal theory.
Are you interested in healing old patterns and awakening to your authentic self? Are you tired of constantly trying to fit in or be the person everyone else wants you to be? Are you ready to see the world and yourself through a lens of authenticity, love, and acceptance? Are you ready to deepen your relationship with yourself and be “Authentically Me?”

If you’re a smart, thoughtful woman over 50 who’s frustrated with eating or weight—and nothing seems to be working anymore—I’ve got you. Many of the women I work with have tried to eat “healthy” for years, yet their body isn’t responding the way it used to. You may be eating less but gaining weight, or feeling like you’ve lost your rhythm with food, energy, or confidence. It doesn’t have to be this hard. With a wiser, abundance-based approach, most of my clients not only lose weight, but also sleep better, feel calmer, and get peace with food again.

On paper, your life looks fine. Inside, not so much. Relationships feel stuck. Old patterns keep repeating. Trauma keeps showing up. Maybe you’ve tried therapy before and it felt like talking in circles... or maybe this is your first time and you’re unsure what to expect. I specialize in therapy for adults that actually helps you make sense of what’s happening, break repeating patterns, and get back in control. At Rivercrest Wellness in Lakewood, we use EMDR, somatic therapy, and CBT to create real, lasting change - not just symptom management.

It is a sacred thing to enter into your story. As voices and demands clamor for attention seemingly now more than ever, I want to create a therapeutic space that allows the noise to fall away and for your voice to be heard. Your life has such inherent value that I find it a privilege to walk alongside clients who want to find greater freedom from cycles of shame and self-defeating emotional roadblocks. Couples and individuals can benefit from someone hearing their stories, championing them on toward freedom to be who they were made to be and to walk in peace in their closest relationships.

It is normal during the course of our lives to feel stuck. You may have tried several options to getting unstuck, but find that there is a part of you that doesn't seem to budge. That part might hold trauma, unmet relational needs, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, the list goes on. Therapy is a great option to get to know the different parts of ourselves and learn how to care for these parts. Desiree offers a safe and nurturing space to take a deep dive into understanding you as a whole person; while also offering the tools and resources to process and heal the parts that feel stuck.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
