Understanding that trauma and grief are a major source of suffering, I focus on the origin of the problem and not the coping mechanisms which can include isolation, anger issues and drug & alcohol use disorders.
My role and purpose is to help people find their freedom in order to find deep meaning in life and to love freely. The people I see often feel diminished and beaten down by many things including substance use disorders, shame put upon them by others, early childhood trauma and the grief associated with living. In my practice I help people learn skills and ways to cope with their individual issues so that they are able to live with the pain and not in it. I work with many modalities of treatment including Rapid Resolution Therapy used to treat trauma. I provide Acudetox to all my clients at every session for no additional fee.

"Hot mess." A funny little phrase that some use to humorously describe their struggles. Have you ever described your situation with this phrase, but it's not funny anymore? You just can't seem to get your life together and fear that maybe you will never be able to gain control. Your sense of humor has been replaced by anxiety, sadness, anger , and aggravation. Sometimes you explode, causing more problems or harming people you care about. It's not like you woke up one day thinking "I'm going to make a mess out of my life," but somehow, that is exactly what has happened.

A healthy sense of humor is just as much a bridge to another soul as it is a shield against the unbearable. In my office, clients often laugh as much as they cry or express anger , and I think that's important in the business of healing. What do you want to heal? Is there something about your relationship with a loved one that feels uncomfortable or unsafe? Do you need a non-judgmental space to help you figure out what you want or who you are?

I work with clients who are struggling with substance abuse, addiction, anxiety, depression, anger , identity, and transition.
Seeking counseling can be a difficult first step. It's hard for us to acknowledge our pain, and often we feel guilty about it. Feelings aren't good or bad, they just are--the consequences of those feelings are what we can influence. Counseling is important because it can provide a safe place to speak the truth about what we are going through. Our truth is powerful and can be a motivator for making changes to how we feel and what we do. Counseling can help us identify our values, goals, & beliefs and to harness them to help us heal.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
