Are you struggling with feeling worthy? Does it feel like if you could just find the right self help book or self care tool, you’d also find a full connected meaningful life? Perhaps it's a traumatic experience, unhelpful patterns in your relationships, or undiagnosed ADHD keeping you stuck. As an experienced clinician I am convinced that we are all worthy, and it is only through developing that loving relationship with ourselves that we can feel worthy. When we learn how to like ourselves, how to LOVE ourselves, our relationships deepen, our sleep improves, and we are more able to take those essential steps to live our best life.

I specialize in working with people that identify as neurodiverse-especially folks with ADHD / ADD .
You really want to get stuff done. Maybe you struggle with being organized, staying focused in conversations, or keeping things neat and tidy. You have a thousand to do lists laying around, but can’t figure out where to start. Instead, you go from place to place starting one task, but never actually finishing it because you get distracted by the other thing nearby. You might struggle at work. You, your friends and family may joke about these difficulties, but deep down you really wished you could be like everyone else. You really want to feel heard and understood. You want better ways to manage your emotions and your struggles.

Hi! I'm Annabelle. I work with adults presenting with ADHD and have a history of trauma. Many people who have not been diagnosed in childhood are now noticing how heavy daily life can be, holding everything together with exhaustion and lack of joy. Adults with ADHD have a complex relationship with themselves, the way they have been able to be highly functioning while feeling discombobulated, afraid of rejection, starting but never finishing projects, bored with daily life.

My specialty would be trauma abuse, depression, ADHD , Bi-Polar Disorder, and a variety of other diagnoses.
For me, the ideal client comes motivated and seeking change in their life. The focus is on the client and what they would like to change. It could be relationship issues communication, self-esteem/self-confidence, or a variety of other issues, as long as they are willing to change things. I think most clients may come in with a misunderstanding that we are responsible for their change, in actuality it is they who use the tools given. The client should be allowed to establish their own goals, big or small. The client is usually in a need of support, listening, and understanding. Change is powerful and up to the client.

Life is challenging, and being a child or adolescent seems to intensify and add to the challenges of life.
Hi name is Justien, she/her/hers, and I am the owner of Soothing Sands Therapy, LLC. I specialize in working with children, adolescents and young adults. I am fascinated with how the brain works finding ways to make the growth process go as smoothly as possible. It is because of my interest in brain development that I have found alternative ways to do therapy other than talking. When we think about adolescent and adolescent years, we just want to survive it but my passion is to help others not only get through it, but thrive through those years. I am also available to provide supervision to individuals in candidacy.

Interested in trying something different? Therapy can be much more than sitting in a dim office talking about your problems. Many people benefit from taking an active and nature-based approach to their therapy. I provide experiential counseling services, often incorporating activities like hiking, rock climbing, yoga, Tai Chi, and various mindfulness exercises. This approach is highly effective with individuals with depression, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, ADHD , impulse control issues, or other disorders related to inattentiveness, self-regulation, self-esteem, or stress management/response.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
