Don't wait any longer to get your child and family the support you need and deserve.
I specialize in helping highly emotional, sensitive children and overwhelmed parents navigate life's big transitions. Many parents experience overwhelm & can feel helpless when their children are consistently anxious, displaying out of control behaviors or regressing in their development. I collaborate with parents to cultivate healing through increasing awareness of their children's emotions and behaviors and co-creating age and developmentally appropriate tools for emotional regulation, that help resolve emotional conflict and restore balance to the family unit.

I truly find it fascinating to learn about each of my client's; where they come from, their family situation, their experiences, relationships and of course, their obstacles.
I work with children, adolescents, families, and young adults on a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, child sexual abuse, trauma related issues, issues related to adulting, divorce and adoption, as well as transitional challenges. I have been practicing since 1992, although I took some time off to raise our four children. I utilize play therapy techniques when working with children, as play is a powerful and therapeutic language for children. Generally, I approach treatment with sincerity, compassion and even humor to promote growth in a synergetic, trusting manner.

It is a privilege and a passion to work with those looking for relational support and personal freedom, albeit in the context of a loved one, family member, marriage, friends, a dating relationship and divorce.
My counseling practice is about helping release people from burdens weighing them down so they can live freely, confidently, and enjoy their lives. Whatever forms a burden takes on (loss of self, trauma, relationship difficulty, emotional instability, spiritual abuse and much more), my hope is to help bridge a painful and self-rejecting narrative for one of acceptance and healing. My method is to help clients build tools and learn to practice boundaries, self-awareness, emotional stability, relational connection, self acceptance and more. I myself found great freedom in counseling, this experience led me to become a therapist.

Much of the human experience is spent on autopilot, operating from habit. We can feel lost, anxious, and unhappy, disconnected with ourselves, not knowing our values or purpose. Automatic negative thinking, old family patterns and triggers can be on repeat. We often work, love, parent, and engage in relationships from this rather unconscious, unfulfilling place. Happiness can feel allusive here. Together, we can explore the process of waking up, to what's inside and discovering how to ground from a place of purpose. Come get curious! Please NOTE: I am an eco-therapist, I see clients in-person outside, or via tele-therapy.

You’re here because you want to find a counselor or coach to help you solve a problem. Life happens. Overwhelm happens. You may not know why.  Counseling and coaching provide opportunities and tools to address your concerns, move to your goals.  No matter how much pain or difficulty you are in, hope exists. I offer tools to learn, practice and integrate at your own pace. My expertise is with individuals and families on the stress-trauma-addiction continuum: meaning any behavior that initially brings relief but over time the circular pattern ends in pain.

Hi! I'm Rikki, I use they/them pronouns, and I mostly work with LGBTQ+ folks with a specialty in working with transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive people. I enjoy working with folks on generalized anxiety, social anxiety, depression, figuring out gender or sexuality, gender dysphoria, trauma/PTSD, and many types of relational issues (with peers, friends, partners, and family ). I focus on long-term depth-based psychotherapy, so my ideal client is ready to start working on (or thinking about working on) long-term issues, behavioral or thought patterns, and/or trauma that affects their lives.

However isolated they appear, I hold a strong belief that young adult emotional and behavioral struggles are primarily a reaction to family influences. To fully support this population in reaching their potential, their challenges will need to be looked upon in the context of family , so to identify how such strife continues to be reinforced. This systemic approach to therapy paves the way for greatest insight to be gained by those who really matter, allowing for symptom reduction and ultimately greater relational harmony.

Adolescence and early adulthood holds a special place in my heart, because it is such ripe ground for discovery, yet many young people get stuck along the journey. I have worked with young people for over 10 years, who have struggled with social-anxiety and shyness, addiction, anxiety and panic attacks, depression, grief and loss issues, trauma, school issues, and complex family issues. While all of these can be horrific for the individual and families involved, the underlying resiliency present in each of these young people and families is the foundation that we build from in the healing process.

Although my expertise is with the adolescent population and family therapy I am open to working with all populations and welcome the opportunity to treat adults outside the family setting.
My passion has been working with people and helping them form healthy relationships with themselves and others. After years of working with emotionally challenged children, exhausted parents,at risk teens and their families, therapy has become a profession as well as a passion. I have had the privilege to treat the community of Boulder and Metro Denver, and have a huge range of knowledge of and connections with local resources. I have spent my professional experiences constantly being impressed with the amazing transformations that people with real life challenges can and do achieve with the right skills, guidance and dedication.

As a mother of 2 children, and wife for 22 years, life is never easy or perfect- but it is a joy to be raising my family .
These are difficult times. It's hard to find a place where you are seen and important! You matter. Your thoughts and perspectives are valuable. In thinking about your needs and your way of viewing the world, we will work together to define and clarify a path for your future. This new path will be a constant part of how we approach therapy together. By focusing on your needs and values we can find ways to heal your heart and mind with a sense of hope and health. I look forward to hearing from you and learning about your concerns as well as assisting you to make life fulfilling and meaningful.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
