I specialize in trauma, life transitions, grief, anxiety , psychological abuse and narcissistic abuse.
You've probably discovered that life has presented you with a myriad of curve balls. Perhaps traumas from your past are lurking beneath the surface, waiting to be unveiled. Maybe you even notice your body sending you signals that something "feels off", or feel stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns and crave to break free. Waking up to our realities is a vulnerable and brave act, which can oftentimes feel frightening. I hold space for all of these experiences. Through trauma-informed psychotherapy and somatic (body-based) interventions, we will safely enter into a deep healing process for lasting change together.

Welcome and congrats on making the courageous decision to enlist some extra support and come into therapy. You may be looking for a therapist because of a crisis of some kind; a depression, a loss, anxiety , or trauma symptoms. I see crisis as an opportunity for growth and love being there for people in their time of greatest need. Crisis can be seen as an invitation to go inward and reflect on what is not working. As a trauma informed psychotherapist with a relational approach, I work collaboratively with clients to identify what is keeping you from living more fully so you can live a more integrated and healthier life.

I have experience working with individuals dealing with difficult relationships, chronic anxiety or mood concerns, traumatic experiences, and impulsive/compulsive behaviors.
I have come to believe that while each person is dealt a certain set of cards in life, we have choice in how to play them. Understanding the cards we are dealt can provide great relief. However, this understanding alone is often not enough for growth. A good therapist can serve as a mirror, allowing us to see ourselves from different angles and consider things about our thoughts, feelings and behaviors that we may have just reacted to in the past. Seeing ourselves in new ways allows us more choice; creating more helpful behaviors, reducing emotional strain and changing difficult relationships.

You do not have to stay trapped in anxiety or physical pain.
Are you struggling with chronic anxious thoughts, low self-esteem, difficulty sleeping, or chronic pain syndromes? If you have been feeling stuck in physical or emotional pain, it is important to know that you are not alone in this, and that there is support available. I understand the interconnectedness of trauma, anxiety , and chronic pain. I know that these experiences can cause anger, resentment, and hopelessness, and hinder the joy and quality of life. However, they are temporary and treatable. I know this because I have been there myself.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
