We all go through times of sef-doubt, depression and anxiety. Life change can amplify these. I believe all feelings are valid, because we are feeling them. What we think about them can be harmful or helpful in a situation. Being very present creates calm as we are in the situation as it happens rather than in the past or future thinking about what we did or will do. This practice strengthens relationships as well as offers personal insight and growth. My job as the therapist is to allow my clients a place to explore the space in their heads. I help clients accept and understand their emotions creating new behavior patterns.

Oz Psychotherapy's goal is to be a safe place to help individuals understand the world they "know" was created by imperfect people with ideas they had to feel safe, loved, and happy. Right, wrong, or otherwise, you also have the same right to go forth to decide and create your own world, like those who came before you, to feel safe, loved, and happy. A place to gain skills, like armor, to be empowered and courageous to be the unique human being you are, and to feel proud despite judgment, opinion, or criticism. We are all a work in progress, each day is a gift, and another chance to make today better than yesterday.

The painful cycles of the past keep holding you back, and you don't know how to shake them. Or the anxiety you feel about forging into new roles and bigger goals mystifies you even while it keeps you at a standstill. Maybe you walked away from a destructive or unsatisfying cycle only to find that you walked right back into the same thing in another setting. You feel like you've the lost the real version of you.

“Will I ever be able to get past this?” “My anxiety is spiraling again.” If you’ve ever had those thoughts, welcome. I work with adults who are experiencing anxiety, trying to work through unresolved trauma, or can’t seem to find the motivation or energy for life. Many of my clients are in the helping professions or are experiencing burnout in their marriages or in parenting. Many clients come to see me if they want to incorporate their Christian faith in their healing journey, though I’m honored see clients who come from all faith backgrounds. If this is you, let’s talk. You don’t have to walk through this alone.

You look like you’re holding it together on the outside, but inside your system feels overloaded. Your emotions swing or shut down, your body holds onto stress or pain, and the same patterns keep repeating no matter how much insight you have. Anxiety, depression, old trauma, chronic stress, or physical symptoms may be running your life. You don’t just want to talk about it. You want to understand why your mind and body are stuck and get the tools to actually heal. You want relief that lasts, nervous-system level change, and a clear path forward so you can finally break the cycle instead of managing it.

Codependency Therapists
What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
