In my practice, I have seen that a lot of emotional suffering comes from losing touch with our true selves and the innate wisdom and strength that can help lead us forward. This can happen from traumatic experiences in childhood or adult life, societal forces, or not getting the support we need in many ways to grow into who we really are. Together, we can rediscover your own inner confidence and knowing by working through old feelings and experiences with compassionate awareness, understanding your core dynamics and how they are impacting your life currently, and finding new, more aligned, ways to be in life and in relationships.

I work from a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic perspective.
I work with men, including outdoorsmen, professionals, creatives, and young adults. Many of the clients I work with are used to being the dependable one for everyone else while leaving little space to talk honestly about themselves. You may find yourself caught in the same patterns of anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or habits that don't change, no matter how hard you try. Maybe you're navigating a divorce or carrying responsibilities that feel too difficult to handle alone. Our work together is aimed at helping you develop a deeper understanding of yourself so that you can live with greater freedom and intention.

It may look like you have it together on the outside — but internally feel exhausted, anxious, stuck, or disconnected. Many of the clients I work with are high-functioning and self-aware. They can articulate their values and goals. But when it comes to actually changing patterns, they feel blocked. Some have experienced obvious trauma, where others grew up learning to minimize their needs, stay strong, or take on more than was theirs to carry. Over time, those patterns can turn into anxiety, self-criticism, shame, or difficulty knowing who you are. In therapy, we focus on closing the gap between insight and action

There are times when all of us feel stuck and disconnected: caught in patterns that no longer serve us, be it substance use, unhealed trauma, depression, or feeling unseen in our identities. We want more than just survival; we want connection, clarity, and ease. It can be tiring carrying all of this alone. You deserve to feel at home in yourself, to break free from shame, and to create relationships that feel nourishing and true. You’re not broken—you’re human, and you deserve change that feels real and lasting, not just surface-level fixes.

I work using psychoanalytic theory.
I truly believe that every individual is capable of change but sometimes needs a different perspective and one that stands side by side to support them through their healing. It can be hard when there are generational aspects passed down that have never been challenged and looked at thoroughly. In our work together we look to challenge different beliefs and behaviors that may be standing in the way of progression toward being the best individual that one can be. I believe that the more we focus inward than outward, that is where we will find everything that we need, and once our internal state changes our external world does too.

Psychoanalytic Therapists
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
