Hello! (: My practice is geared towards a holistic view of who you are. Our thoughts, feelings, actions and past events all come into play in our current lives. Sometimes they are difficult to handle alone. Are you ready to start the work and truly heal yourself? I use a mixture of movement, inner child work, memory retrieval, journaling, meditation, and other techniques to truly understand and heal the individual Self. I am trained in Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and for those dealing with chronic pain, it is proven effective to reduce and even eliminate pain symptoms.

My goal is to create a warm, welcoming space free of judgment where we can explore your inner world together and help you move towards living a more authentic life according to your personal values. Effective therapy should empower clients to make the changes they want to make in their lives. I help clients navigate questions of meaning, identity, freedom, and connection. I will seek to work collaboratively with you as you face anxiety, depression, life transitions, moments of uncertainty, or whatever else might cause you to seek therapy. I hope to support you as you make sense of your experiences, however challenging they are.

Making the initial phone call to seek counseling can be one of the most difficult things to do. I have worked with many clients who initially avoid counseling because of fear, shame, or anxiety around sharing their experience. My hope is to be a safe place to process the ups and downs of life. If you are unsure, be encouraged that you have already taken the first courageous step by looking. By taking the next step, you will find that there is hope on the other side.

I work with thoughtful, capable women who feel overwhelmed, stuck in people pleasing, or unsure how to prioritize themselves. Many carry unresolved trauma or patterns that once helped them cope but now feel limiting. My superpower is walking with women through sexual and religious trauma. Through EMDR therapy, I can help you gently process what’s beneath the surface so you can reconnect with yourself, set boundaries with more ease, and move through life with greater clarity, confidence, and calm.

I address substance use, military experience, depression, trauma, grief, spirituality, treatment for suicidal ideation or suicide-centered issues (ideation, attempt or grief).
If you're trying to understand the depression that won't go away, even on good days, or quiet the running dialogue in your head, I can help. I can help you manage the behaviors that you can't seem to walk away from, or teach your nervous system to relax so you don't have to feel like you're on hyper-alert all the time. If you need to talk about the things you've lost, or seen, or just how much it hurts, I can walk with you through all of it. The decision to get counseling is not always an easy one. Sometimes it comes out of life forcing you to, or from a place of fear that things will never get better. I can help either way.

I view counseling as a dynamic process between a client and therapist. My theoretical orientation is dependent upon what would be most appropriate for the client. I view each client as unique and I use techniques that are designed to meet that client's specific needs. I listen carefully to my clients so that I can empower, confront when appropriate, teach, encourage, and guide them so they can grow emotionally, spiritually, psychologically and socially. I respect the clients I work with. I want people to participate in a healing process without fear that they will be judged or coerced.

Hi! My name is Denisse Manzano and I'm a bilingual psychotherapist from Mexico City living in Denver. I work with adults who feel stuck in recurring patterns, disconnected from themselves, or unsure how to move forward in their lives or relationships. Many of my clients are thoughtful, open-minded, and curious about understanding themselves on a deeper level. A lot of my work focuses on helping clients identify unconscious patterns, past experiences, and relational dynamics that may be shaping the way they move through life so they can begin making choices from a place of awareness rather than repetition.

Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
