Are you the type of person who longs for connection and safety in your relationships, but ends up pushing those who care for you away? Often these behaviors are responses to childhood trauma. While these responses may have helped you survive your trauma in childhood, they are only causing you distress as an adult. If you have found your current way of coping with daily life or handling relationships is not working for you, I can help guide you in setting and achieving your goals of healthier communication, coping skills, and trust in your relationship.

Thank you for reaching out for help! I know how hard that first step can be. If you feel like this process is a little daunting, I am here to say, it is okay to feel that way, and I am here to make it all a little more manageable for you. Not only are you not alone, but you are also stronger than you know! Working through past traumas, current stressors, or future unknowns can seem overwhelming and exhausting before you even start. Just know, that your well-being in navigating all this big “stuff” is my number one priority.

Most people come to counseling due to emotional distress. Whether anxiety, mood issues, panic, relational or life transition problems, they desire resolution. They hope that with counseling they can increase their resilience and strength and gain mastery over their internal lives. To get the roots and not just the fruits of emotional unease. To be patient and trust themselves in the process. They will be optimistic in obtaining new levels of peace.

Clients benefit from a wide range of trauma modalities such as EMDR or Somatic Experiencing and evidenced based practices such as Emotionally Focused Therapy or the Gottman Method.
Many will enter therapy thinking, “What have I been doing wrong to get here?” I meet clients and think, “What have you been doing right to make it this far?” Yes, I think a bit backwards, but it’s what allows me to find innovative ways to help clients move forward using their strengths. Individuals, couples, and families who have previously felt stuck in complex issues with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief & loss, adoption, parenting, and relationships report finding relief through embracing their strengths and being reassured that their experience is valid. This helps tap into their innate ability to heal and renew balance.

I use Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and EMDR to help clients tune into their bodies, calm anxiety, and feel curious about their protective parts.
You may find yourself caught in an anxious loop—ruminating, fortune-telling, and feeling stuck in patterns you can’t quite shift. My clients are adults who struggle with chronic anxiety, low self-esteem, self-doubt, and relationship wounds. They feel pressure in their bodies, racing thoughts in their minds, and a sense that something important is missing. Many of the people I work with want to slow down and be more present—but without guilt or the weight of feeling responsible for everyone else’s emotions. They’re seeking not just relief, but a deeper, more grounded connection to themselves and their lives.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
