I enjoy working with adults and adolescents and have worked with a variety of issues such as: anxiety/fears, depression, divorce, grief & loss, PTSD, self-esteem, suicidal ideation and family conflict.
It is important to find a counselor that is a good fit for you. While techniques, coping skills and tools have their place, I believe it is the relationship and trust built between the client and the counselor that are the main pathway in achieving insight and change. I would like to help you learn new and healthier ways to view your circumstance and to face the difficult times.

Starting your personal counseling journey is never a decision of weakness, but instead it's one of great strength and bravery. You are deciding to face the issues, change the patterns, and break the unhealthy cycles in your life and in your family . That is an incredibly brave thing to do, but I do understand that it's scary to get started. My hope and desire is that you feel supported and empowered throughout this process. I hope to be able to provide tools, guidance, and support as you walk out your journey of healing. I am a Christian and will incorporate faith-based elements when it's welcomed, but that is completely up to you.

My approach to therapy is holistic in nature. What affects our minds, affects our emotions, our bodies, our spiritual self, and our relationships with others. I follow the premise that we as human beings are whole at our core. Due to life experiences, we learn to "disown" the parts of ourselves that we do not like. To aid in this process of becoming whole again, I utilize a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Systems, and Jungian theory. As you become whole again, you grow. As you grow, you become wiser and better able to handle the challenges of life.

Nothing in life has to be in vain- whether through opportunities for healing and growth, insights, and strengths development, the trials and tribulations that come against us can be transformed from weighing us down into stepping stones for moving forward through healing. Counseling offers a unique type of human interaction- unlike speaking with friends and family , the session is solely focused on you and helping you reach your goals in life. I offer a collaborative approach in treating you as the expert on yourself and your world while I use my expertise and training to assist you in reaching your goals.

I help children learn and apply social, emotional, and coping skills to use in their daily lives with school, friends, and family .
“Mom/Dad, I don’t want to go to school today. I feel like no one likes me. I feel like you don’t understand me. I hate myself. I am not good enough. I can’t do anything right.” These are some of the heartbreaking statements children are saying to their parents throughout this past year of tremendous change and chaos. If any of these conversations have become common with your children, I would love to connect and help your child feel more happiness, peace, and pride in who they are and the things they do.

Evening Appointments Available - It can be heartbreaking to see your child/ teen struggling, and when they are struggling with such overwhelming emotions as depression, anxiety, anger, etc. we can feel so helpless. However, you and your child are not alone, and you've made it this far, which says a lot! I would love to partner with your family to add support, and offer a space for your child/ teen to sort through all of those overwhelming emotions, and behaviors that can accompany those emotions. Sometimes a little extra, professional support, and a well thought out path for how to get to a better place can make a big difference.

Being a school counselor I have worked with a wide range of students, young people, and even other family members who experience anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, and so much more.
Everyone is different and that's okay. We all struggle and that's okay. We all deal with difficult and hard times and sometimes we just need a little support. During our journey together we will travel those difficult areas in life while discovering those personal strengths you already possess. My hope is that through a strong relationship built on trust, understanding, and even a little humor we will find a level of healthy freedom. As we work together you may discover that your journey would best be traveled with someone else, so it is important you find someone who is a good fit for you.

Anxiety, depression and self critical thoughts can take the joy from our lives and leave us feeling hopeless and alone. Our relationship with food may be unhealthy and we may feel suicidal or compelled to self harm. We want to move through the world with confidence while living a life of purpose but are overwhelmed and feel stuck. Goals go unmet, and our world becomes smaller as we resist challenges in our social life, school and career, out of fear and discomfort. We want to have more friends, do well in school and have a satisfying job or family life. We want to be happy and fulfilled.

Like you, I am human. I’ve had many sweet moments in my life. But I’ve also had some experiences that were pretty brutal. Plus, some stretches in-between when I was simply adrift, dealing with tough decisions, feeling alone, a bit lost, trying to manage the tectonic shifts of being mortal. I was always grateful for family and friends. But sometimes they weren’t enough. When I finally gathered the courage to see a therapist for the first time, it was a remarkable experience for me, completely different from talking with my buddies! I felt like the counselor understood me in a way I didn't even understand myself.

My goal as a therapist is to help you/your family through your difficult life situation.
I believe that people do the best with what they have. Trauma, stress, anxiety and adverse life experiences can, at times, derail us from being our “best”. My role as a therapist is to help you reach your pinnacle. I always work from a strengths-based and client-centered focus. The client is the expert of their own life, but I serve as an agent for change to assist in developing, applying and supporting the therapeutic growth. I have experience with children, teenagers, young adults (up to age 35), couples and families.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
