I believe in continually seeking training to better my skills and am Certified in Eagala Equine Therapy, EMDR Complex Trauma Advanced training including Dissociation, DBT with Marsha Linehan, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) basic and advanced training for Adults, Adolescents and Trauma
Anxiety, depression and self critical thoughts can take the joy from our lives and leave us feeling hopeless and alone. We want to move through the world with confidence while living a life of purpose but are often overwhelmed and feel stuck. Goals go unmet, and our world becomes smaller as we resist challenges in our social life, school and career, out of fear and discomfort. We want to have more friends, do well in school and have a satisfying job or family life. We want to be happy and fulfilled. Our relationship with food may be unhealthy and we may feel suicidal or compelled to self harm. Life feels hard.

Many will enter therapy thinking, “What have I been doing wrong to get here?” I meet clients and think, “What have you been doing right to make it this far?” Yes, I think a bit backwards, but it’s what allows me to find innovative ways to help clients move forward using their strengths. Individuals, couples, and families who have previously felt stuck in complex issues with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief & loss, adoption, parenting, and relationships report finding relief through embracing their strengths and being reassured that their experience is valid. This helps tap into their innate ability to heal and renew balance.

Are you coping with trauma? Was your birth traumatic but you don't want to complain because "it could have been worse?" Have you gone through a rape or abuse and while everyone means well, they just don't get it? Is your mood all over the place and you are tired of feeling this way? Trauma can leave you feeling alone, unsure and frightened; it might be hard on your relationships or you might be avoiding things because of intrusive thoughts or emotions that come up.

Are you the type of person who longs for connection and safety in your relationships, but ends up pushing those who care for you away? Often these behaviors are responses to childhood trauma. While these responses may have helped you survive your trauma in childhood, they are only causing you distress as an adult. If you have found your current way of coping with daily life or handling relationships is not working for you, I can help guide you in setting and achieving your goals of healthier communication, coping skills, and trust in your relationship.

I have the most fulling outcomes in working with clients who are in their twenties or thirties. That being said, I am open and enthusiastic about working with clients of all ages, 18 and up. I work from a person-centered lens- each client is the expert on their own experience. Healing is a partnership, where the client brings wisdom of their own goals and dreams, and I facilitate the healing process by staying curious, asking the right questions, and providing useful tools. I prioritize the relationship between therapist and client above all else- it is within the confines of a safe, trusting relationship that healing occurs.

Not only are you not alone, but you are also stronger than you know! Working through past traumas, current stressors, or future unknowns can seem overwhelming and exhausting before you even start. Just know, that your well-being in navigating all this big “stuff” is my number one priority.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
