Everyone deserves to feel heard and validated, without fear of judgment. Using cognitive-behavioral, emotions-focused, and family systems therapies, I aim to meet you where you are for support. I utilize a family-systems and cognitive-behavioral lens to assist my clients in understanding the "why" of who they are. We will then work collaboratively to change what my clients wish to change in their lives, and accept what is necessary. I value taking a personalized approach with each of my clients, as I feel our individual uniqueness is essential to the core of ourselves.

My clients are individuals who have experienced trauma at some point in their lives. Many of them struggle with relationship challenges, especially around setting boundaries and communicating effectively. They often prioritize others’ needs over their own, leading to feelings of exhaustion and burnout. Emotions can feel overwhelming or hard to understand, so avoidance has become their main coping mechanism. Despite these challenges, they are ready to explore new ways of living with greater intention. They are open to a holistic therapeutic approach that honors all aspects of their lives and embraces their unique identities.

Throughout our life we have developed strategies to handle upheaval, loss, and struggle. These strategies, though well practiced, may no longer be serving us. Bronwyn offers a safe space to unpack historical experiences and present-day triggers. She encourages curiosity and self-awareness. She pulls from Hakomi, mindfulness, and neurobiology to tend to emotions, identify & adapt unhelpful thinking and behavior, and regulate the nervous system. Bronwyn's approach builds resiliency, offers new strategies in managing daily stressors/anxieties, helps respond to somatic (physical) symptoms, and nurtures your inner voice.

You’re the one people come to. You read between the lines. You notice everything. You hold space, solve problems, and try to show up for others. And yet… when it comes to your own life, something isn’t clicking. People I do my best work with often report that they overthink conversations long after they happen; feel responsible for other people’s emotions; struggle to receive care, even when you want it; feel “too much” and “not enough” at the same time. You are not broken. You’re operating from patterns that made sense at one point, and now no longer serve you.

What if you are not a problem that needs to be solved? My approach to therapy is to accompany my clients in exploring the deeper mystery of their true self and in tapping into their innate healing power. I guide clients exploring personal and spiritual inquiry, psychospiritual integration (e.g. values alignment, embodiment, meditation practices, near death experiences, post-psychedelic experiences), sexual and gender identity (LBGTQ2IA+ affirming), and post-traumatic growth. I also welcome clients processing religious trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, life and career transitions, isolation, and recovery from narcissistic abuse.

Professionals and Millennials often carry years worth of childhood hurts, trauma, family problems, or grief. If your family growing up didn't see your needs or feelings, your adult life now may include anxiety, pressures, people pleasing, anger, and not feeling "good enough." You might feel overwhelmed with stress, yet continue to over-perform and burnout. You may not feel in charge of your emotions and relationships. A parent (still!) makes family harmony difficult. Or perhaps you have experienced the death of a family member. I have worked alongside people in their 20s-40s at universities and nonprofits on three continents.

Hi, I'm Sarah Prater, a therapist who works with children, tweens/teens, adults, individuals, couples, and families. With children, I use child-centered play therapy to help them express themselves in ways that feel natural and safe. For older clients, I draw from a blend of narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to support healing, growth, and meaningful change. I believe therapy should be a collaborative, empowering experience, and I strive to create a warm and engaging environment where every client feels seen and supported.

Are you a man struggling with relationship tension, anxiety or burnout? Most men don’t want therapy full of fluff, jargon, or vague advice. They want straight talk, practical tools, and a place to sort things out without being judged. I work specifically with men who want to communicate better, stay in control of their emotions, improve their relationships, and handle stress with more confidence. In my experience, therapy can misunderstand men's goals and aspirations and I offer a nonjudgmental space that welcomes them.

If you’re neurodivergent and/or LGBTQIA+ or if you are exploring any of these identities, you may have learned to mask, perform, and/or dissociate to belong and are still unlearning those survival strategies. You might have complex trauma, expressed through people-pleasing, perfectionism, difficulty trusting others, negative self-perception, chronic shame and/or pain, exhaustion, disconnection or numbness, an intense desire to distract or escape, and/or feeling stuck. These pathways that alert and respond to threat are the same pathways where the body can build capacity for safety, presence, joy, restorative rest, and pleasure.

The common saying "It’s about the journey, not the destination" certainly has its time and place. However, if there’s anything I’ve learned over more than a decade working with the havoc wreaked by trauma and relationships in crisis, it’s that the therapeutic journey ought to lead to a destination...quick! When we spend years of our lives wrestling with the challenges of relationship distress, post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety and a whole lot of unhealthy coping mechanisms, in my humble opinion, this journey need not take until we’re old and gray or our most precious relationships have fallen apart.

I work with teens, young adults, and adults who feel things deeply, overthink a bit, and are ready to actually show up and be real in therapy. You might be juggling school, work, relationships, or identity “stuff,” thinking, “I should be fine…but I’m not.” Maybe you’re anxious, stuck, or just tired. We’ll keep it real, use your strengths (and humor), and build tools that actually help you feel more grounded, more like yourself, and more connected.
