I'm so glad you're here! Life has this crazy habit of throwing us curve balls that can leave us feeling powerless, anxious, depressed, or like we are trapped in some strange version of ourselves that can't seem to manage the challenges in front of us. I believe that we develop habits and beliefs about ourselves based on what has happened to us and that those things can keep us disconnected from who we truly are, ultimately preventing us from fulfilling our deepest desires. I believe that you have answers within yourself, if you can only clear away all the fog of years and years of negative beliefs about yourself and the world.

You're not the only one! Life can feel harder than you thought it would be, in marriage or in your own body and self. Whether you newly notice something isn't working or you're battle weary from trying to change, it's never too late to try something new. Effective therapy searches out the actual root of your problems, the "what's underneath." Your past experiences matter. With this insight we look for those coping mechanisms that have kept you captive in unhealthy patterns, and begin the process of growth. It's amazing how much healing can come from deeply understanding yourself better and truly coming to like what you find.

My training and experience has focused on several areas: supporting women in transition, assisting with relationship dilemmas, helping aging clients and caregivers, and counseling substance abuse clients.
Challenges are a part of life. How we meet those challenges - whether they are our partner relationships, parenting, work, or transitional - determines our contentment with ourselves and our interaction with people in our life. If you are interested in learning more effective skills to assist you in meeting life's challenges, i am excited to facilitate your journey. The journey may be difficult but is always worth the effort. We will utilize your skills, look at your goals, and together develop a plan for success.

Your eldering can and should be vibrant and happy. For a long time, we believed development stopped when an individual entered adulthood. This is far from true. Not all the transitions of middle and later life are easy or welcome. No one has to feel depressed, alone, bored, isolated and forgotten. I support individuals, couples, families and caregivers as they navigate the important transitions of later life. Later life is a time of dynamic personal change and growth.

of issues, including PTSD, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, parenting, women’s issues, relationship issues and self esteem.
Often, when I speak to clients who are new to therapy, they will ask me, “So how does this therapy thing work?” It is normal to be nervous when you start therapy. I strive to make the process as comfortable as possible. The first thing I focus on is laying the groundwork for successful therapy: essentially, I develop a relationship with you that feels comfortable, collaborative and not intimidating. My approach to counseling incorporates acceptance, compassion and a sense of humor into our work. Through experience, I have learned that you will benefit the most from a collaborative approach.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
