Somatic
Experiencing is based on understanding how our nervous system stores trauma, and how it can release it.
Sometimes people hit a wall. Things that used to be satisfying, like career, relationships, or hobbies don't light them up the way they did when they were younger. All the sleepless nights worrying about "why?" just lead to a useless cycle. I help people, aged 25-75, who have "hit the wall" and are ready to find a healthy way through to the other side. My clients are sick to death of repeating the same unsatisfying patterns but can't seem to stop or change. They feel stressed, ashamed, shut-down, or depressed and don't feel nearly enough love, joy, optimism, or creativity.

My style is primarily
somatic
and relational, but I draw from multiple theoretical counseling psychology frameworks, including evidence based modalities (CBT & DBT) to 'meet you where you're at' in your healing journey.
Emotional wounding, loss, trauma, and unhealthy relationships often create a sense of overwhelm, heaviness and prolonged anxiety that can feel never-ending. Over time, it's common to become increasingly detached, stagnant and feel like it's impossible to connect with others in an authentic and meaningful way. Psychotherapy provides the unique opportunity to 'get real' with 'what is', allowing you to grow and heal in ways that will benefit all of your relationships, including (most importantly) the relationship that you have with yourself.

somatic

In our work together, you will learn how to relate to yourself and the painful realities of life skillfully. To begin, I'll support you in slowly turning attention inward while remaining grounded and open. From this connected space, we'll inquire into the thoughts, behaviors, emotions, and sensations that color your experience of life. Naturally, unresolved trauma and grief will call attention to themselves. We'll meet them together, with genuine curiosity and compassion. Insights emerge both spontaneously and gradually when relating in this way and 'the work' begins to feel more authentic, enjoyable, and healing.

You are busy, and successful in your career. You've worked hard to achieve. And -though difficult to admit - you are struggling with keeping all the balls in the air. Whether it is an acute issue, or a longstanding difficulty, you will feel my well honed skills as we navigate forward. You don't have to suffer alone anymore, or feel like you have to settle for less. When you come to me you can be assured that our focus and attention is on you and your goals. Often, the adaptive strategies we have learned as younger people, outgrow their usefulness later in life. I feel honored to accompany people drawn towards growth and change.

I utilize a holistic lens in my therapy sessions, and gently weave my knowledge of trauma, yoga, breath work, nutrition, mindfulness, and
somatic
experience into my engagement with clients.
“Pain from my past keeps me from truly enjoying my life”, “There are so many things about myself I wish were different”, “My anxiety is painful and I feel exhausted ”, “I feel unfulfilled in my relationships”. Does any of this resonate with you? Life throws many obstacles our way, and it can feel extremely defeating at times. Do you desire to know yourself on a deeper level and connect to the aspects of yourself that make you unique and special? I believe one of the bravest things you can do is take time to acknowledge your pain and embrace your individual story. You deserve to be seen, heard, and understood.

Having experience working with adults and children who identify as survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence I use my EMDR training and Integrative
Somatic
Parts level 3 training to help process trauma and rebuild healthy relationships.
All living things on this earth experience entirely unique and multifaceted lives. Some of us fall in love and have our first heartbreak, others are survivors of violence and assault, and others experienced a childhood that felt painful, neglectful, or unstable. These experiences can express themselves somatically, psychologically, or in one specific area of the body. Illness, total wellbeing, and contentment are connected to our present, past, and inter generational experiences. Are you experiencing barriers in school, work, relationships, or your health? Your life experiences may be blocking your ability to move forward.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
