We all face difficult challenges that can make it hard to face on our own. I believe in helping individuals overcome these hardships whether it be children, individuals, or couples. We can work together to create goals that help you accomplish your best self and ensure that you have the support to do so. I like to use humanistic and holistic approaches with clients that tailor to each persons specific needs and I also use trauma-informed approaches for those who have experienced trauma. I use play therapy techniques with children and provide
parenting
support and consultation.

Empowering
parent
's and caregiver's ability to connect with their child in a deep and meaningful way is the central focus of Spencer’s approach to overcoming challenges. This begins when parents/caregivers are able to resolve any challenges in the relationship that may be a barrier to therapy. Once this occurs, caregivers and their child can begin, in a safe and therapeutic environment, to explore the trauma, abuse, neglect, abandonment and loss which are the emotional source to behavioral struggles.

Life is challenging, difficult, often times downright sad. It may seem too overwhelming and impossible to handle, most if not all have experienced life in these dark places. Competent and caring counselors can help you figure out how to get out of those places. What's your biggest challenge? Need help with coping skills, communication, relationship problems that can benefit from being less reactive and more responsive, decision-making,
parenting
skills like Circle of Security, resolution of situations that have haunted you too long that EMDR can help with, anxiety that seems to control your life, loss of someone or something?...

My clients come from a variety of backgrounds, but often find themselves in the helping profession. Teachers, nurses, veterinarians, and EMTs, those who have a habit of putting others' needs before their own. My clients are often worn out, burnt out, and struggling with how to stay in their profession when they don't have energy or passion anymore. Many often feel guilty because they have a "good life" when you look from the outside and don't understand why they feel the way they do. At this time I an not working with children, however, I also love exploring
parenting
strategies and helping children succeed through family work

I also enjoy working with couples and families in conflict, as well as grief/loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, divorce, and
parenting
concerns.
Asking for support can be difficult and intimidating. It’s important to find the right fit between client and therapist. I create a therapeutic environment that is client directed and immediately focuses on the goals that you want to achieve. My agenda is YOUR agenda, and we will move at the pace you desire! I believe everyone’s life is just that… their life and no one else’s. While we often cannot control the cards we are dealt, we can learn to determine and control how we respond to them and what decisions we make with them.

I work with individuals and children on issues including: Trauma, Self-compassion and self-acceptance, Anxiety, Depression, Coping with divorce and co-

, Life transitions.
“I don't feel like I have anything to look forward to.” “I will never get over this breakup.” “I feel like nobody gets me.” “I think I'm past something, then I overreact.” “I spend most of my time worrying or avoiding." Do any of these resonate with you? We all struggle with difficult circumstances, thoughts and emotions at some point. Most times we can move through these but sometimes we get stuck. This does not mean we are broken, bad, or unloveable; although it can certainly feel that way. You are not alone! There is hope for a satisfying life. Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
