Connection to ourselves and others is essential to our mental health and well-being. Also, feeling like we’ve lost connection to ourselves or others (or both) at points in our lives is common. When this happens we may experience sadness, anxiety, grief, shame, and a range of other emotions. Our relationships may suffer and the cycle continues. Personally and professionally, I believe in the power of connection, relationships, and community. From this lens, I work with a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, isolation, grief, shame, identity concerns, relationship difficulties, existential concerns, and men's issues .

COUNSELING and COACHING -- it's a powerful 21st century approach, with tremendous therapeutic benefits and real world results. People frequently report, my therapist stares at me, and says or does nothing. This is classic 20th century therapy (it's old, and moderately effective). Our clients do not pay us to sit and do nothing -- they pay us to work as a team; making you the best you. Feel free to read client testimonials, and learn more about our services at: www.yourlifecounseling.com

In my experience anxiety and depression symptoms are often manifestations of a lack of self-compassion along with a lack of inner understanding. I help clients connect to themselves and in turn, connect with others, I do this by helping people foster kindness and acceptance toward themselves. When my clients practice self-care and acceptance, and learn more about themselves they begin to see the benefits of the work they are doing. These benefits include feeling more grounded, less triggered, and having a clearer sense of who they are.

My ideal client is someone who is open to working to understand themselves, their world, and their place in it differently. Often times, throughout life, we feel as though there are ways that we "should" or "need to" think, act, feel, and believe. My ideal clients are folks who are willing to look inward to examine these ideas, and whether or not they fit the life they actually want to live. For people who feel out of place in their own lives I hope to be a person that helps them to make sense of things and make the tweaks necessary to enjoy a different measure of fulfillment in life.

For over three decades, I've served individuals, couples and groups in professional leadership roles. Since 2004, I've specialized in helping adult (25+) men and women: biz owners, executives, therapists, leaders, entrepreneurs + athletes. Many experience "success", yet hide chronic, painful guilt. Some survived toxic families, feel alone, overwhelmed or stuck, struggle w/ relationships, perfectionism or people-pleasing, have unresolved anxiety, anger, depression and boundaries, were unfaithful (pornography, affairs), and keep lifelong secrets. Clients desire authentic healing and growth, often from shameful trauma and/or abuse.

Hi there – I’m Michael. My own healing journey has led me around the globe, studying various healing modalities to learn how people heal themselves (and each other). My mission as a counselor is to assist and support individuals so they may live more authentic, meaningful, and productive lives, in harmony with their families and communities. If there is one truth I’ve come across, it is this: the World needs You. The World needs your unique qualities, talents, and skills. The World needs your authentic, honest perspective. The World needs you to be healthy, joyful, and connected.

"The only way out is through." I am committed to helping my clients discover what it means to truly live fully -- to experience healing in relationships, to understand their strength, to embrace their uniquenesses and to live a life of wholeness and adventure. At the core, I believe that we are relational beings, and while relationships are often the primary sources of our pain, they are also the primary conduits to our healing. Together we will find ways THROUGH the pain and into freedom. There is too much LIFE to be lived...too much adventure to be had...

Hi! I run a small, independent practice where you can know that YOU are the focus. I work with adults and teens in healing relationship patterns, overcoming trauma, and pursuing a more intentional and fulfilling life. I'm especially passionate about working with men, and have a long history with recovery and mentorship programs. Counseling is about much more than managing crisis; it's about rediscovering and being excited about your path in life. Your struggles don't tell the whole story about you. I'm excited to join you in making this your turning point.

I help clients feel less anxious and more authentic in their relationships. I believe that many people experience struggle in their lives as a result of growing distant from their emotional compasses. I work with individual clients and couples to reconnect with these aspects of their experiences. While I work with clients of all genders, I have a particular interest and expertise in working with men.

*BETTER MEN, HUSBANDS & DADS* Sometimes it can feel like you've failed or haven't lived up to your loved ones (or even your own) expectations. Vulnerability can be hard, and because you're used to being the one to "fix" things, it seems there's no one who can understand or help you. You may not know what direction it takes to become the husband or father that you need to be, or maybe you know the direction but simply can't make it happen. You might feel alone, defeated, overwhelmed and just want to figure out how to make things better now.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
