"One of the tragedies of our life is that we keep forgetting who we are." These words, written by Henri Nouwen, ring true for me every day in my counseling practice. Daily I hear countless stories of people who have forgotten who they are and who are desperate to remember. Thankfully, I have found that counseling offers a place for people to "remember who they are." I would be honored to walk alongside you as you enter into barren, scary, confusing, lost or tender places of your heart.

I practice Internal
Family Systems
therapy integrated with EMDR to heal anxiety, depression and trauma and to integrate internal strengths.
Life is filled with opportunity for growth. Psychotherapy is a powerful way to grow your capacity to enjoy life and outgrow parts of yourself that may have protected you once but are no longer helpful. Are there parts of yourself you would like to change or heal? Parts caused by trauma, childhood events, life stressors or relationships? Are you an adult child of emotionally immature parents - with unmet needs you want to explore and learn to meet? I teach skills to help you feel better quickly, and I also help you heal longer term patterns. We can clear painful memories from body, mind & spirit to create a healthy sense of self.

One of the most challenging steps in making a change is reaching out for help, so I’m glad you’re here. Clients I see often express feelings of overwhelm, worry, things “not going right,” and finding themselves repeating cycles they can’t seem to get out of. I hear time and time again that they’ve tried many ways to help themselves: self-help books, meditation apps, therapy social media accounts, yoga and breath work, changed their diet/exercise, and even medication management… but they still struggle. Despite these efforts, it seems like the “oomph” they’ve needed for their healing was having a space to process their thoughts.

I work with clients who know themselves well and have been trying to improve their lives but still find they feel lost, unfulfilled, or in need of change. Many have been working to gain clarity on their childhood experiences and unhealthy patterns in relationships, as well as the places they get stuck, but somehow they keep finding themselves in the same place. If you want to bring greater awareness to what is unconsciously driving you and keeping you stuck, working together may help you to understand yourself and find more contentment. I specialize in self exploration for highly sensitive people, using
IFS
and Jungian inquiry.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
