Would you like to work on your issues with mindfulness, compassion and curiosity? Those are the qualities we use together to work with depression,
grief
, anxiety and relationship issues. Becoming aware of and learning to work with one's inner critic is very helpful too. In general, counseling and psychotherapy are powerful tools that can help us to feel better. I offer a safe, supportive and calm place to explore your self and your life. We can use traditional therapy techniques as well as mindfulness or meditative approaches to start to feel better as well as to grow and change.

Sometimes people hit a wall. Things that used to be satisfying, like career, relationships, or hobbies don't light them up the way they did when they were younger. All the sleepless nights worrying about "why?" just lead to a useless cycle. I help people, aged 25-75, who have "hit the wall" and are ready to find a healthy way through to the other side. My clients are sick to
death
of repeating the same unsatisfying patterns but can't seem to stop or change. They feel stressed, ashamed, shut-down, or depressed and don't feel nearly enough love, joy, optimism, or creativity.

Connection to ourselves and others is essential to our mental health and well-being. Also, feeling like we’ve lost connection to ourselves or others (or both) at points in our lives is common. When this happens we may experience sadness, anxiety,
grief
, shame, and a range of other emotions. Our relationships may suffer and the cycle continues. Personally and professionally, I believe in the power of connection, relationships, and community. From this lens, I work with a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, isolation,
grief
, shame, identity concerns, relationship difficulties, existential concerns, and men's issues.

I provide holistic counseling and specialize in
grief
and
loss
, life transitions, trauma, anxiety, and depression. I offer support in a safe and comforting environment to those who may be struggling or wish to explore more about themselves. I believe unprocessed trauma is often at the root of many mental health symptoms. One may develop coping mechanisms that helped them make it through traumatic experiences that they find no longer serve them. There is no shame in this, I think this shows the human spirits ability to protect itself. Processing and integrating trauma is a large part of the work on the path towards healing.

I'm deeply passionate about facing
grief
together and supporting people through life transition after difficult events.
Counseling is provided to offer you healing, hope, and empowerment when you are experiencing emotional, relational, and mental health stress. You are guided through questions like...My life has totally changed. What do I do now? How do I repair my relationship with my best friend? Where do I turn after the
death
of a loved one? How do I heal from past abuse? To start addressing issues like these, I'll ask you questions in our very first session that will lead us to new ways to see your troubles or we'll pinpoint a big struggle you'd like to address. From there we'll decide on a plan for therapy specific to your goals.

My passion is to help others understand, heal and accept themselves regardless of their life circumstances, and to integrate that new understanding and acceptance into a healthy lifestyle filled with rich relationships. I enjoy working with mature adolescents up to and including the life-embracing "older and wiser" groups. Two main beliefs that have guided me are these: "Nothing happens by accident (there's a reason for everything)", and, "We all have free will (to make our life what it can be). Most of life's challenges are centered around relationship,
loss
, self-image and lack of an internalized sense of confidence and safety.

Life is full of surprises. Some are good, and some are painful. The exact details of pain are always unique. Themes I am familiar with include working with survivors of trauma and accumulated hardship, end-of-life preparation,
grief
, identity, depression, and struggles with intimacy. I enjoy helping individuals grow beyond the hardships of the past and find ways to thrive and live with openness and enthusiasm.

I learn each day what it means to live after the
death
of my daughter.
One of the greatest predictors of therapeutic success is a good match between therapist and client. My therapeutic approach is to be gently direct and focuses on you living the truth of who you are. I have no agenda about what your truth is or judgment of how it's become clouded. I am, however, interested in supporting you to live fully. I facilitate awareness through various means: body awareness, blockages to choice, personality, relationships, and teaching mindfulness practices. Clients who hold responsibility have the fuel to catalyze change, and I am ready to work with you.

Are you dealing with the
death
of a loved one? Do you simply wish you had someone to talk to who is impartial and non-judgmental? Therapy is about finding the right "fit" with a therapist, and I pride myself in creating a comfortable environment in which to foster growth. Sometimes all we need is to have a place to talk things out before we can move forward and feel better.

Maybe you’re here because you are looking for something for yourself or someone else. It can take a lot of courage to start counseling for the first time or start with a new counselor. I believe connecting with your counselor is one of the most important parts of successful therapy. I currently work with people who are struggling with some part of their lives and use a substance to help them cope or even just to feel normal. I also have a special space for those who have suffered
loss
or are experiencing
grief
.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
