I utilize EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, conflict resolution skills, communication coaching, identity exploration through the lens of the Enneagram, spirituality, and attachment-based family therapy .
For the past twenty years I have devoted my life to coming alongside others in their restorative journeys. Along the way, I have acquired evidence-based behavioral techniques and therapeutic tools; when combined, these often facilitate the restoration my clients are looking for. I see myself as a fellow sojourner on your passage; whether it is an interpersonal issue, transitional season, trauma, family impasse or relationship that needs mending. My hope is you will find an authentic and emotionally safe space to work through your current struggles.

I take a systems approach that includes care and attention to both the external and internal world of the individual, couple, or family . Sometimes shame, sadness, anxiety, and other more vulnerable feelings are shoved down deep only to surge up, spilling over when least expected. Our inner critic and anger can be the most vocal and powerful influencers, which are worn like shields and seep into our interactions with the people we care for most.

As a culturally competent therapist, I understand that each person has unique world views, based on their experiences within their family of origin and within themselves, and in relationships.
Let’s work together to lighten your human experience. It is courageous to admit when you need a bit of help. The process of therapy is collaborative, and we are in this together. Progress in life starts with clarity in your mental health and wellbeing. My motivation as a therapist is to offer you a safe space to share and navigate life’s challenges. Together we will tailor where you want to take your journey and how you want to get there. Life transitions, relationships and self-work can feel heavy and isolating. Sessions are client-focused, in a confidential environment where you are encouraged to express and process all emotions.

When a newly recovering family attempts to navigate their old surroundings, it can be stressful and frustrating.
When working with clients, I utilize a client-centered, collaborative approach. I focus on meaning, encouragement, and support to help my clients obtain awareness, understanding, and acceptance of themselves. I approach the counseling relationship from a perspective of "meaning making" which suggests that people act on what they believe about situations, not the situation itself. Together, we use that knowledge as a basis to explore, assess, illuminate, unravel, and move forward through obstacles towards a goal-oriented outcome.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
