My style is primarily somatic and relational, but I draw from multiple theoretical counseling psychology frameworks, including evidence based modalities (CBT & DBT ) to 'meet you where you're at' in your healing journey.
Emotional wounding, loss, trauma, and unhealthy relationships often create a sense of overwhelm, heaviness and prolonged anxiety that can feel never-ending. Over time, it's common to become increasingly detached, stagnant and feel like it's impossible to connect with others in an authentic and meaningful way. Psychotherapy provides the unique opportunity to 'get real' with 'what is', allowing you to grow and heal in ways that will benefit all of your relationships, including (most importantly) the relationship that you have with yourself.

My therapy is interactive and supportive, blending Cognitive, Behavioral, Dialectical , Emotional and Mindfulness Techniques to resolve core issues which we are all susceptible to and can affect us and our relationships.
I have a personable style of working with people which allows them to quickly settle into the therapy process. I focus on helping others learn how to rely on their inner resources which will define their true personality and recognize the beliefs or behaviors which hold them back from their full potential. This opens up the process to build new skills, a stronger self esteem, regain self confidence and a real sense of direction. With a renewed sense of personal strength people build healthier, happier relationships with family, friends and coworkers, and pursue vocations with greater success.

I specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, a modality that provides access to skills that support you in regulating emotions, change unhelpful patterns, decrease self invalidation, and provides a foundation to build the life that you want.
I work with clients who live with intense emotions, debilitating depression, immense anxiety, anger, trauma, or the urge to avoid feeling all together. For many this can lead to unrelenting crisis, self invalidation, being hijacked by emotions, impact relationships, and reinforce behaviors that are not in line with the life they want. I create a space to support clients with non-judgmentally looking at their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions that prompt suffering and inhibit access to long term goals. I support clients with recognizing the function of these behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that prompt pain and help find resolution.

Life is hard. You might be struggling with depression, anxiety, relationships, PTSD or just the everyday life stressors of maintaining a work life balance. I'm here not only to offer you hope, but I can teach you how to tap into your own ability to heal. We are all born with a core essence of goodness; our true Self. When we learn how to nurture our innate qualities of compassion, confidence, clarity, curiosity, courage, creativity, connectedness and calm, it is then when we can truly heal. You may have lost some of these qualities of Self along the way, but I can help you rediscover them through my client centered approach.

I am certified by NBCC in trauma and DBT certified using both approaches with my clients, but I also follow my clients lead on where they are at and what they are ready to embark on.
I believe that most individuals struggle to build a strong healthy relationship with a therapist, which leads to people not allowing themselves to be vulnerable, share their secrets or get to the root of the problem. The relationship in counseling is key and my main aim is to build a strong supportive relationship with clients that are ready to really find self-discovery, self healing and finally be able to talk about their 'truths' without judgement as its time to finally release pain, hurt, and trapped emotions that have been controlling their lives. For me there is no such thing as an ideal client, its just being the real you!

I often blend practices from Hakomi & other somatic or body-based approaches, EMDR Therapy, nature-based & experiential therapies, Gestalt & DBT .
You’re struggling with past painful experiences impacting your current relationships & preventing you from living life on your terms. Past therapists with traditional, rigid & impersonal approaches were not helpful for you; leaving you feeling that nothing will ever help or change. I believe healing is possible & therapy incorporating an understanding of oppressive systems we navigate can provide a space to heal. Challenging internal messaging rooted in trauma & systems of oppression can help turn off the auto-pilot or get off the merry-go-round to live a life of meaningful choice, authenticity, connection, belonging & joy.

Therapy can look like many different things and ultimately, it is your space. In a world that demands so much time and energy, I want therapy to be a place that is yours and where you can be yourself. I take a person-centered approach to therapy, knowing that you are the expert of your own life. I also utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT ) to help you improve on distress tolerance, coping skills, and emotional regulation.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
