Trained in Family Systems, I work with individuals, couples and families. I am client centered and a bit more directive and goal oriented rather than passive. Your time is valuable. I want to see you get results. I offer clients resources and "exercises" to work on between sessions if you desire or you can simply work in sessions if you are too busy (many of us are!). I respect your background, values, beliefs, ethics, faith and what you bring to the process. We will collaborate in this process. You are the expert on YOU but I will give you ideas to help maximize your process.

I collaborate and empower individuals, couples, and families by helping them explore, introspect and examine both their internal and inter-personal worlds.
I often take up the role of a supportive collaborator in your unique healing journey. I intend to embrace everything that you wish to share about who you were, are, and are becoming. A foundation of safety and trust in the therapy room is built in hopes that it may expand to other areas of your life, allowing you space to heal past hurts and explore future possibilities and directions. I enjoy working with clients who find themselves going through difficult life transitions or struggling with factors outside their control (e.g. relational issues, work stressors, identity exploration, socio-political pressures and more).

I view counseling as a unique relationship between a person trained in the process of change (the therapist) and a person who is an expert in their own lived experience (the client).
Acknowledging you're stuck and need help can be hard. Reaching out and finding a therapist can be daunting. Retelling your story can be painful. However, taking these steps and investing in your mental health is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

Reaching out and allowing somebody to help you sort through pain can be an intimidating process. I understand the courage it takes and because of this I believe in building a strong relationship based on trust. Not every therapist is a good match and I want to respect your time and finances. I offer a free 30-minute consultation to see what it would be like to work together. My goal is to provide a safe space for your story and to help you achieve healthy relationships and self-worth. I would be honored to be part of your healing process.

It can be difficult to take the first steps in changing things. I want to help make that easier for you. I work with individuals and couples to help explore the thoughts, feelings, and relationships that may not have been given proper attention, and help to make better sense/understanding of these in terms of how they influence the way we engage in life. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, loss and grief, conflict, parenting, work/school/life-transitions, or any number of issues, I'm here to hear your story, help you work through what's brought you to where you are now, and to help work towards where you want to be.

For the past twenty years I have devoted my life to coming alongside others in their restorative journeys. Along the way, I have acquired evidence-based behavioral techniques and therapeutic tools; when combined, these often facilitate the restoration my clients are looking for. I see myself as a fellow sojourner on your passage; whether it is an interpersonal issue, transitional season, trauma, family impasse or relationship that needs mending. My hope is you will find an authentic and emotionally safe space to work through your current struggles.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
