I enjoy helping people get along with each other - with their spouses, parents, children, friends, coworkers. Relationships are often complicated by issues from the past, and I work at a deep level to address present day and past issues. I like to help heal individuals who have been traumatized recently or in the past. My approach is love based, and focused on reducing stress and healing fears. I focus more on healing which leads to permanent change than on temporary behavioral change, and I integrate the most recent brain research. I also honor and integrate my patients' spiritual beliefs and values into the therapy.

I love when I have the opportunity to witness a client step into owning their unique story rather than living as a character in someone else's story that does not align with their authenticity and values! By releasing shame and rigid (right or wrong) thinking through moving into nuance and abstract thinking we can begin to appreciate the rich array of emotions and information to move from conflict towards adaptation and harmonizing our inner and outer worlds. Clients who thrive with me value questions that challenge them, homework that propels them, and my eccentric, playful, and nerdy yet disciplined approach to personal evolution!

Relationships are complex but thankfully, a source of so much information. They can promote a sense of safety and joy but can also devolve into toxicity and self-abandonment; the way we perceive others and navigate the world today has its roots in our early relationships and experiences. There is value in exploring our family of origin as a vehicle for understanding ourselves and the obstacles we face while in relationship. A universal goal for my clients is increased insight into themselves that fosters healing, personal growth, fulfilling relationships and intentional living.

Are you longing for a deeper connection with your partner or spouse? Do small conflicts escalate into major arguments (or periods of no communication) that leave you both hurt and frustrated? Or, perhaps you have tried talk therapy in the past and want to try a different, body-based somatic approach to bring healing to past traumas and create shifts in the way you view and live your life today.

You are busy, and successful in your career. You've worked hard to achieve. And -though difficult to admit - you are struggling with keeping all the balls in the air. Whether it is an acute issue, or a longstanding difficulty, you will feel my well honed skills as we navigate forward. You don't have to suffer alone anymore, or feel like you have to settle for less. When you come to me you can be assured that our focus and attention is on you and your goals. Often, the adaptive strategies we have learned as younger people, outgrow their usefulness later in life. I feel honored to accompany people drawn towards growth and change.

As humans, we are always changing. I specialize in working with adolescents, adults, and couples who are ready to take charge of their own change; those who want to ensure that they are getting closer to the best version of themselves. Too often, we feel that the world has taken control over us, and our story is being written for us. However, I do not believe that this has to be the case; you CAN take back your life, and I am excited to partner with you on that journey!

As humans we experience suffering (painful emotional states). This is normal...but what happens when you feel stuck here; as if you were living the same day over and over. Likely, your nervous system is overwhelmed and under-resourced. You attempt to cope the best way you know how. This might look like using substances, excessive sleeping or business, shopping, scrolling on media for hours, sex, self-harm, avoiding and people and responsibilities to name a few. While these are brilliant attempts to escape, numb or avoid the pain, it's not sustainable, nor should it be!

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
