My ideal client is a teen , adult or couple who is self aware, motivated, and is either curious or committed to doing the work necessary to start their healing journey. They may be someone who has learned a behavior to cope with trauma, like substance use or an eating disorder for example, and are discovering that tool is no longer serving them. Perhaps they notice the way they have been living is in alignment with someone else's values rather than their own. My goal as a therapist is to bring to their attention ideas and feedback that provides a new perspective that guides my clients to a more empowered way of life.

Jaime understands the importance of taking into account what developmental stage your teen is currently in and thus, services will be tailored to each specific adolescent ’s developmental stage.
People come to counseling for many different reasons. Jaime believes there is no one size fits all solution. I work with you to find what is going to be the best option for the goals you have for your, or your child's, life. Jaime believes all individuals have within them the tools to make change in their lives. Life, irrational beliefs, trauma and problematic behaviors can all get in the way of an individual’s ability to access what they have within them to make the changes needed to feel more fulfilled in their lives. This is where counseling comes in, helping to clear the obstacles in the way leading you to a happier feeling life

I offer adolescent , adult, couple and family therapy.
Life is challenging, difficult, often times downright sad. It may seem too overwhelming and impossible to handle, most if not all have experienced life in these dark places. Competent and caring counselors can help you figure out how to get out of those places. What's your biggest challenge? Need help with coping skills, communication, relationship problems that can benefit from being less reactive and more responsive, decision-making, parenting skills like Circle of Security, resolution of situations that have haunted you too long that EMDR can help with, anxiety that seems to control your life, loss of someone or something?...

My ideal client is someone who is ready for change in their life. My experience with clients has been that when someone is ready to make a change in their life they will work hard to achieve these goals. Often my clients may not know what that goal is, so it becomes my role to help guide them through this process, helping them see what they want and how to get there.

Almost all of my clients have one thing in common. They want better, gentler, more fulfilling relationships. Whether they are struggling from the effects of trauma, working to enrich or save a marriage, navigating the divorce process, dealing with depression and/or anxiety, learning new social skills, or simply trying to be better parents, they want a deeper and more peaceful sense of connection with themselves and others. My clients are intelligent and thoughtful people who tend to connect with the natural world. They are often seeking to grow as well as to heal. They want to thrive rather than simply survive.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
