I have specialized training in treating perinatal mood disorders, treating sexual issues, treating problematic
substance
use, and supervising MFT candidates.
It takes immense bravery and courage to approach the big questions in life. I love my work because I am humbled by the resilience, grace and humor I get to witness as people navigate these big questions. Often, the clients I work with have some difficulty seeing these qualities in themselves due to trauma, family patterns, sociocultural stressors. I want to walk with you to explore the questions leading you to seek therapy and explore the strengths that come with asking those questions while helping you develop strategies to take care of yourself.

As a Certified Sex
Addiction
Therapist (CSAT), I have a heart for working with adults seeking recovery from sex and porn
addiction
. Notably, porn
addiction
has accelerated over the last 20 years because of the Internet. Typically, sex and porn addicts also experience compulsivity regarding drug and alcohol use. Fundamentally, people use sex or drugs to medicate against anxiety and depression resulting from traumas.

I am trained in
substance
abuse issues and Energy Psychology (tapping).
Do you have a difficult childhood? Unfortunately, our childhood decisions are put on automatic and affect our current daily life. I teach practical skills, such as tapping, emotional skills and communication that can be used for the rest of your life. Alchemical Hypnotherapy is used to rescue the child that was you from your past. Then, the adult is empowered to set boundaries and focus on attaining personal goals. Energy Psychology (Thought Field Therapy) is useful to defuse patterns and trauma and as a daily tool. My desire is to promote independence in the people I work with. I have a large toolbox to give clients to use.

Let's face it, right now you are looking for a counselor - which means you are likely overwhelmed already. I honor the courage it takes to seek therapy! You have likely been doing the best you can - but it feels like nothing is working. At certain times in our lives we need a fresh perspective to help us through. A non involved person to vent the things we've been feeling and help us navigate the discomfort. You are doing the right thing by reaching out. Counseling is a powerful next step. Together we will find what your looking for.

I have 20 years of experience in social work, most of which has been on the ground helping others in crisis, trauma,
addiction
and mental health.
Imagine you have had the same problem or behavior recycling through your life for months, perhaps years. This could be anything from managing your emotions, accepting how traumatic events have shaped your life,
addiction
, conflict, how other people treat you/how you treat others, or simply taking ownership. Imagine your goal is to change the circumstance, flip the script on your life and find lasting change. I want to help people who want to learn why things are the way they are and to embrace new skills and tools to manage their lives. I use a combination of practical experience and research based skills to get you there.

Some important work I do is with families who suffer from
addiction
.
When working with clients, I utilize a client-centered, collaborative approach. I focus on meaning, encouragement, and support to help my clients obtain awareness, understanding, and acceptance of themselves. I approach the counseling relationship from a perspective of "meaning making" which suggests that people act on what they believe about situations, not the situation itself. Together, we use that knowledge as a basis to explore, assess, illuminate, unravel, and move forward through obstacles towards a goal-oriented outcome.

Currently, I work and specialize in bringing healing to people suffering from chronic pain, trauma, depression, anxiety, relational/marital stress, life transitions, and
addiction
(behavioral and
substance
related).
You matter and your unique story matters. Together we will work to unearth the issues contributing to your pain and chart a path forward. Along the way we'll also discover your strengths that will aid you in healing. Depression, anxiety, and other issues are not the end of the road. There is hope and we will work toward that hope.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.
How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.
How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.
How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason, “interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
