I have spent the last ten years working with children and adults through the lens of outdoor education and therapeutic recreation. I’m deeply passionate about the restorative power that the outdoors can have. With this background, I use an integrative process that utilizes somatic and mindfulness modalities to promote self-exploration, awareness, and healing.

Parenting can be difficult at times, but you do not have to walk this path alone.
Is your child verbally and physically aggressive that it is impossible to go out to even a store or you dread their teachers reporting their "behaviors" at school? Are you worried that your child is too shy to engage in positive friendship and activities? Parenting can be very challenging at times, and I am here to listen, understand, and create treatment plan that are unique and meaningful for your child and your family. I believe (& witnessed!) children thrive despite trauma and life challenges with consistent supportive caregiving!!!

Sometimes your experiences didn't prepare you for the reality of adulthood, sharing life with a partner or struggling to maintain you own identity as you became a parent.
Do you feel like you've hit a wall? You're spinning in circles? You keep reliving past experiences? Or perhaps you and your partner are having the same fights repeatedly with no resolution. Maybe you're a parent floating along in a sea of chaos that you can't ever seem to bring order to. Feeling alone, lost, or ashamed that you 'can't handle this' or you 'should know what to do' - everyone else seems to be doing just fine. There is no Life Manual, no Relationship Guide, no Parenting Handbook given at birth to navigate your life.

My own experience as a mom, wife, student, former teacher, and daughter with an aging parent gives me a wide breadth of experience to pull from in the therapy space.
Are you feeling stuck? Adrift? Struggling with relationships? Not recognizing your self these days? I would love to get the opportunity to work alongside you as you unpack these struggles, and others, as we find ways together to move through whatever might be weighing you down at this time in your life. To be human means to face adversity, whether internally or externally, but it doesn't mean you have to face these adversities alone. Working with a therapist means you always have an ally, no matter what life throws at you. I would love the privilege of being that ally for you.

I do virtual therapy with clients here in Colorado. Most of my clients are seeking assistance in mitigating the stressors in their lives. Family relationships; grief/loss; difficulties with parenting or accepting parenting; substance use; crises of faith...all these issues are present in my practice. Most are looking for direction; someone to help sort through the problem and achieve an adaptive resolution. They are distressed that they are at odds with family; concerned over the loss of control with substances; and some are wondering about their purpose in the world.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
