Choosing a therapist is tough, so here's how I differ from other therapists. I work best with people who feel stuck in patterns they understand intellectually but still can't seem to change emotionally. Many of my clients are dealing with trauma, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, chronic depression, relationship issues, or painful inner conflict. I find that combining parts work, hypnotherapy, and a depth-oriented approach helps people not only understand and relate to their issues, but provides emotional relief and self-acceptance. Together, we'll work towards inner peace, and a more compassionate relationship with yourself.

What distinguishes my therapy practice from others is that I provide a different element in addition to conventional psychotherapy, which is an abiding interest in freeing, developing, and refining our capacity for deeper dimensions of freedom and personal completion than conventional psychotherapy typically envisions. As human beings we are generally conditioned by our families, culture, and education system in ways that limit our personal truth and freedom. This leads us to, in small or large degrees, become somebody who we're really not. As a result, we feel diminished in the full expression of who we are and what we can become.

Therapy can feel intimidating or unfamiliar, and it’s normal to wonder what it will be like to open up. No matter what you are navigating (ADHD, anxiety, addiction, trauma, grief, identity, negative thoughts, difficult family dynamics, etc.), it's a possibility that you might feel stuck, overwhelmed, afraid of judgement, or unsure where to begin sorting through these challenges. Here, I will collaborate with you to help you feel understood, supported, and capable of handling life’s roadblocks while fostering meaning and promoting a comfortable space. I hope to help you to feel loved and more human at the end of each and every day!

Relationships can feel hardest when the stakes are highest—marriage, parenting, and family life. I work with couples and parents who feel stuck in conflict, disconnection, or painful cycles they don’t want to pass on to their children.

Life has a way of throwing us a curve ball when we least expect it. It happens to most of us if not all of us. The difference between the two groups might be the tools we have in our tool box at the time to deal with a difficult circumstance. This is when it is helpful to reach out for an extra set of eyes or point of view to aid in finding a clearer path to move forward. I can help in navigating through your mental health journey and together we can learn how to manage the challenges you are facing.

My work rests on a profound respect for the human capacity to change and a deep appreciation of the impact of emotional pain on both mind and body. Indeed, I view many “symptoms” as creative attempts to cope under stress. This perspective emerged from 30+ years in practice, formal training, work at psychiatric hospitals and other facilities, experience as a supervisor and a teacher, and lived experience. Whereas my specific approach is individualized, my overall orientation privileges the relationship between therapist and client as a force for change and a window into other relationships, both historical and contemporary.

I love to work with people who are ready to actually know themselves. Not in a surface-level way, in the way that changes how you show up in your relationships, your career, and your own head. A lot of my work centers on self-esteem, communication, and boundaries. I take a holistic approach, we'll look at the thought patterns that keep you stuck, but we'll also pay attention to your nervous system, because insight alone rarely changes behavior. Your body holds a lot of the story too. I look at the relationship you have with yourself, and the relationships you have with the people/environment around you.

Nothing can take you to the breaking point quite like a relationship that feels doomed. You've basked in the glow of a honeymoon phase (hopefully), coasting on excitement, anticipation, and thrill; now the work kicks in. Endorphins and oxytocin have leveled off and you've entered the impossibly complex world of knowing another human being more fully. Do you stick it out and battle past your own setbacks and inefficiencies (they're there), or do you cut bait and start the process anew? Do you take the risk of accessing your own vulnerability and knowing yourself more deeply, or do you keep your floaties strapped on tightly?

During our time together, we will laugh a lot, we may cry, we may celebrate and grieve. Sometimes we may work to understand the nuances of long-held survival patterns and sometimes we may experience healing in real-time through EMDR, somatic processing, art, play, or walking in nature. Ultimately, the goal of our work will be to rewire your nervous system’s protection response and allow space for the body’s natural healing process. Our work together is collaborative, as we co-create a path that is meaningful to you. My role in this journey is to walk alongside you and to support you, unconditionally.

Hello, I'm James Mori, and I'm so glad you're here. I've always loved therapy, ever since I was a little boy. There's something profoundly meaningful about walking the journey to healing and elevated perspectives with my clients. Over the last twelve years, I've had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, and adults, but I've truly found my home in adult recovery services. My approach is grounded in the belief that each person carries an inner compass guiding them toward wholeness—even in the midst of confusion, grief, or overwhelm. In therapy, I work relationally, attending to how attachment, culture, and nervous system states shape our experience. My style is warm, attuned, and down-to-earth, offering curiosity, creativity, and gentle challenge when helpful. I draw from depth psychology/Jungian frameworks, EMDR, polyvagal theory, expressive arts therapies, attachment theory, somatic awareness, and dreamwork.

I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy, a collaborative process where we explore how your history shapes emotions, relationships, and patterns in your life.
I work with people who feel stuck — weighed down by depression, caught in painful relationship patterns, or unsure of who they really are. They often notice the same struggles repeating but aren’t sure why or how to break free. They want a space to explore emotions, relationships, and the deeper parts of themselves that may be hard to name. Individuals who come to my practice are looking for more than quick fixes; they’re seeking real understanding, and meaningful change.

Depression, anxiety, trauma, obsessions, etc live in the mind's dark corners and create cages that breed and maintain pain, stagnation, isolation, and an inability to think. If your suffering feels like a never-ending cycle and a lifelong struggle, you’ve come to the right place. There are no tricks or quick fixes -despite what some might promise- so, let's explore your history and mind's process, and discover your strengths within. Once you finally understand the patterns and process the internal conflicts that have been keeping you stuck, the cage can be dismantled.

Psychoanalytic Therapists
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
