These are difficult times. It's hard to find a place where you are seen and important! You matter. Your thoughts and perspectives are valuable. In thinking about your needs and your way of viewing the world, we will work together to define and clarify a path for your future. This new path will be a constant part of how we approach therapy together. By focusing on your needs and values we can find ways to heal your heart and mind with a sense of hope and health. I look forward to hearing from you and learning about your concerns as well as assisting you to make life fulfilling and meaningful.

Therapy can feel intimidating or unfamiliar, and it’s normal to wonder what it will be like to open up. Here, I will collaborate with you to help you feel understood, supported, and capable of handling life’s roadblocks while fostering meaning and promoting a comfortable space. I hope to help you to feel loved and more human at the end of each and every day!

If you have been holding everything together on the outside but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or exhausted on the inside, you are not alone. Many of the people I work with are used to being the strong one. The one others rely on. But underneath that strength can be stress, anxiety, relationship struggles, and a quiet sense of loneliness that is hard to explain. Therapy with me is a space where you do not have to perform, fix everything, or have it all figured out. You can show up exactly as you are, messy, uncertain, or overwhelmed, and we will work through it together.

You may love each other but feel stuck in the same arguments, miscommunication, or emotional distance. Conversations escalate, issues go unresolved, and over time the relationship can feel exhausting or disconnected. I work with couples who want to understand what’s happening beneath the surface so they can communicate more effectively, rebuild connection, and move forward with greater clarity and intention.

Life can be filled with heartbreak(s), disappointments and frustrations that lead one to feel hopeless and filled with despair. Unfortunately, during this time you feel alone, or you feel like no one understands what you are going through. The veil of resilience and compassion is important and necessary to put the following four concepts in perspective to help give clarity to a situation: 1. Insight 2. Self-Esteem 3. Action 4. Healing. There are no issues too great for an individual to overcome if they put forth the effort. Therapy is a process that promotes change and encourages an individual to seek their self-selecting truth.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or disconnected, carrying a lot while trying to hold everything together. Maybe you’re navigating stress, identity questions, relationship challenges, or the weight of expectations shaped by family, culture, or work. Even when you’re doing “all the right things,” something still feels off. Asking for help takes courage, especially when you’re used to being strong for others. You don’t have to face this alone. You deserve joy, a voice that feels heard, and the freedom to embrace your most authentic self. I offer a space where you feel seen, valued, and supported.

Sometimes the life that looks most successful from the outside is the one that feels most costly behind closed doors. My clients are high-achieving professionals and couples who are respected, capable, and visibly accomplished — and who are quietly overwhelmed, whether at work, at home, or both. They may be excelling professionally while struggling personally, or finding that the patterns that built their success are no longer sustainable in either domain. They aren't falling apart. They're tired of mistaking endurance for wellbeing.

Before you could even think about who you were, the world had already written your story...without you. And most of it still doesn't understand you. The emotions that come out of nowhere, the reactions you wish you could take back, the thought that quietly settles in afterwards: Is it just me? Am I too much? I work with teens and young adults who feel emotionally intense, chronically misunderstood, or like they keep ending up in the same place, including those navigating adoption, chronic illness, or BIPOC identity and of which I navigate myself. I know what it’s like to finally sit with someone who actually understands.

FAQ - Black and African American Counselling
As an African American, why might I wish to see a therapist who is African American?
Working with an African American therapist can often mean that you start from a place of shared understanding with a therapist rather than having to explain your experience from scratch. A therapist who shares your racial identity is more likely to understand the specific pressures shaping your mental health, including navigating racism, cultural identity, and the overall experience of being Black in the United States. They are also more likely to understand the role that family, community, and cultural expectations play in your life without requiring a lengthy explanation. This shared foundation can create a greater sense of safety in the therapeutic relationship and make it easier to open up at the start of therapy.

Are there Black therapists who specialize in working with Black men or Black women?
Yes, many Black therapists have specific experience working with Black men or Black women. While therapists who work with Black clients broadly address concerns relevant to all genders, like anxiety or depression, those with a gender-specific focus are equipped to work with you on the particular ways that race and gender may intersect. For example, some therapists may specialize in working with Black women on topics like body image or maternal mental health, while other therapists may work with Black men on topics such as relationships or masculinity.

Do Black therapists offer marriage and couples counseling?
Yes, many Black therapists are trained in couples and marriage counseling and can work with partners navigating a wide range of relationship challenges. Therapists who identify as Black may have a better understanding of the cultural dynamics surrounding marriage, family roles, and conflict that are specific to African American communities and can work with you and your partner without making assumptions about your background.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with Black clients?
The initial consultation, which is typically a brief phone or video call, is the right time to raise a therapist’s experience working with Black clients. You can ask specific questions, such as "Do you have experience working with Black clients?" or more broad questions, such as "How do you approach cultural identity in your practice?". During the initial consultation, you can also ask whether they have undertaken training in cultural competence and how they would handle a situation where a cultural misunderstanding arose in therapy. A therapist who responds to these questions thoughtfully and without defensiveness is a good sign they are equipped to work with you effectively.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Black therapists?
The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.
