I believe in creating a safe emotional space for healing and growth. I believe that growth and healing is within the client. I am here to help guide that growth through empowerment, various techniques and the bond that is established in the relationship. I believe that empathy, humor and honesty are essential to healing. Sometimes we feel blocked or held back in our life due to depression,
trauma
, relationship problems, limiting beliefs, or we just feel as though we are not achieving our full potential. I believe that not one technique works all the time and that a combination of various techniques is valuable.

Psychotherapy is much more than the removal of symptoms. I help individuals embrace their lives! I work with adults, aging adults, and adolescents who may have symptoms of anxiety, depression, learning disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders, brain traumas, Autism spectrum disorders,
PTSD
and all emotional concerns. I'm particularly interested in working with clients who have
PTSD
and/or those in 12-step programs who need additional help to supplement their step work; who want to work with a therapist who understands and supports the 12-step approach.

Many clients are confused and unsure where to begin on their path for change. Unresolved
trauma
, grief, guilt, abuse, negative memories, abandonment, betrayal by friends or family can create low self-esteem, unregulated emotions, relational issues, self-isolation, fear of trusting others or being hurt, loneliness, self-harm, feeling burdened by self, suicide ideation, addictive behavior to mask pain, depression, anxiety, co-dependency. I have often helped clients gain self-compassion, love, respect, clarity and confidence with the understanding it takes time and patience. I offer a warm, accepting approach in a pleasing safe space.

You've heard of
PTSD
. You think you might have it. You don't know what to do about it. Your sleep is an issue because you have nightmares. Even when you don't have nightmares, you don't feel rested in the morning. You avoid pieces and parts of your life because you fear being triggered by past
trauma
. When the stress increases in your life, you notice higher anxiety and scarier thoughts. You want to let go of the abuse and
trauma
of the past. Maybe you've heard about EMDR, but you don't know where to start. When you're ready to deal with
trauma
, you want to start as soon as possible.

PTSD
is an inability to release
trauma
energy, and an unconscious rewriting of the stories of our lives.
My ideal client is frustrated, angry, in despair. Life hasn’t worked out the way it was supposed to. (S)he lost herself somewhere long ago, left herself behind. Relationships are hard; those recurring patterns and reactive behavior keep interfering with connection, and self-esteem, and contentment, and vitality, and... A malaise has settled, along with a darkness. This inevitably leads to anxiety, depression, isolation, addiction, and despair. My clients know there must be more. But, where to begin? How to start?

trauma
, postnatal and postpartum mental health, with clients who are experiencing anxiety and depression.
If you are ready for real change in your life and are tired of being stuck in the same routine, same fears, or same unhelpful thought patterns, then we will work very well together. Many of the clients who see me for therapy have experienced excessive worry and hyper-vigilance, racial
trauma
, hopelessness, suffered from the aftereffects of a traumatic event, or have had difficulty connecting in relationships with others. I love working with women who are currently experiencing the wild changes and challenges of motherhood, particularly helping women find their selfhood during the pre and postpartum journey.

I have extensive training and experience in the Neurobiology of
Trauma
and Attachment, self-regulation and pre-adolescents/adolescent school and family related issues.
Many teens and adults struggle with relationships, emotional regulation, and depression. Negative thoughts and beliefs about self and the behaviors that follow can disrupt daily functioning and have a serious impact on self-esteem and problems at home, school, and work. Stress, life events, and emotional and mental health challenges can feel completely overwhelming. Life's challenges are hard to take on by yourself and I enjoy helping others move through their journey, discover their strengths, and reach their goals. I love partnering with my Registered Therapy Dog, Rio, and my horses for experiential learning and psychotherapy.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
