I'm Amanda, providing in person & telemental health services to Colorado and NJ residents from emergent adulthood into seniority. I seek to provide a comfortable, welcoming space for clients to work through life’s challenges both large and small. Together, we’ll devote our time to cultivating growth and self-awareness while building upon existing strengths. We all have the ability to change, grow, and self-heal. Although my goal is to help clients discover and recover authentic solutions for their unique challenges; during our work together you may find that the solutions are already there, I just encourage bringing them to light!

Feeling successful, but like a hamster on a wheel? High achiever? Athlete? Perfectionist? HSP or Empath? You crush goals, but something feels off. Deep down, you know you're meant for more than just the daily grind. I get it. I've been there.

I love to work with people who want to work on themselves and are familiar with mindfulness. It is a great way to connect with ourselves and jump-start growth and healing. I often draw upon this strength to help you achieve your goals in therapy.

My ideal client is frustrated, angry, in despair. Life hasn’t worked out the way it was supposed to. (S)he lost herself somewhere long ago, left herself behind. Relationships are hard; those recurring patterns and reactive behavior keep interfering with connection, and self-esteem, and contentment, and vitality, and... A malaise has settled, along with a darkness. This inevitably leads to anxiety, depression, isolation, addiction, and despair. My clients know there must be more. But, where to begin? How to start?

I have always been pulled towards topics that many in society do not want to talk about – sex, death, money, religion, addiction, and many others. I have seen what happens to individuals when they are left to struggle with these topics alone. Some feel guilt, fear, anxiety, depression, or just an overall sense that they are not allowed to be who they really are. My goal in therapy is to provide a safe space for individuals or those in relationship to talk about these topics and feelings. I work with them to develop the tools to grow into being confident, unashamed, and authentically themselves.

I believe that all of us want to live meaningful lives, connected to loved ones and contributing to the world in some way. To do so, we must learn to fully accept ourselves, connect with others in healthy ways, and develop our unique gifts. My intention as a therapist is to create a warm and safe space for you to do the brave work of addressing past wounds, updating stories that keep you small, and helping you grow a sense of inner peace and outer resilience. As social animals, we humans often need trusted relational support to heal and evolve into our true potential. I am honored to be that person and create that space for you!

A sense of well-being, our most basic state, can be restored. Habitual behaviors, reactions, and styles of thinking contribute to our suffering and create stress, depression, anxiety and inhibit the full enjoyment of life, especially if emotional needs have gone unmet or traumas have gotten in the way. Through sensitive application of specific tehniques, clarity and and ease can return. I offer a subsidy with a low copay for clients who qualify as well as a sliding fee to make therapy affordable.

Are you feeling anxious or do you have feelings of panic? Are you chronically stressed? Are you just going through the motions without actually enjoying your life? Or maybe you have changes you want to make but have not been successful? Life is full of ups and downs, grief and loss, changes in relationships, and changes within ourselves, just to name a few, are all factors that complicate life, and sometimes make it hard to live our life to the fullest.

It sucks to feel stuck. Spinning your wheels for so long has left you feeling drained and exhausted. Other people seem so much more confident than you feel, and you wonder if everyone else but you got handed a "how to like yourself and your life" manual. You've tried and tried to get unstuck by yourself, but it just doesn't seem to be working. If you don't get some help you worry that you'll stay bogged down in the same spot forever.

I believe in forming a strong and trusting relationship with my clients. I am known for my warmth, patience, curiosity, creativity and energy. I work successfully with individuals who feel stuck; that something is blocking them from getting to where they want to be. They may have lost their motivation, self-confidence, feel sad or fearful, have difficulties in relationships, or are haunted by things that have happened to them. I am attentive to how each individual takes in information and engage that learning style in sessions. My ultimate goal is to help others be more aware of who they are.

Let's be honest, asking for therapy can be awkward, scary, and often intimidating. However, when it comes to finding the support we need to better our lives, it's the first step we have to take. I'm here to guide you along the way and make your healing process as achievable as possible.

In unique ways, we all get stuck, suffer, feel anxious, fearful, out of balance, and, need to be seen and make meaning of our lives. To me, inner work is about coming into enough self-knowledge to discern what is true to our nature by learning to integrate and develop unconscious energies in more fruitful and creative ways. I offer depth-oriented therapy informed by my doctoral training as a Jungian psychologist, to partner with you in relating to unconscious energies that shape your sense of self, noticing the repressed or unfamiliar energies within, and uncovering the guidance and messages within your dreams and symptoms.

Free 20 minute consultation! I offer counseling in several different modalities: Telehealth counseling, walk and talk and therapy, and individual counseling retreats. My training and orientation are in Somatic, Mindfulness Based, Gestalt and Internal Family Systems. When psychological symptoms have begun showing up, we are not always aware that these symptoms can be felt in our bodies. This can feel like tightness and constriction in various places in the body. These bodily sensations are a wonderful place to start the counseling process simply because, while the mind often tells an inaccurate story, the body does not lie.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Durango?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
