Accepting New Clients in January 2023 - It can be challenging to address our mental health, especially when society, our families, and our culture tell us it's taboo. I specialize in working with teens and adults in the Denver area from various cultures, backgrounds, sexualities, and gender identities who experience stress, trauma, and life adjustments. I work with individuals who are challenged with anxiety, relationship concerns, and substance use, and those in need of school and career counseling. I also work with individuals who struggle with women's issues including postpartum anxiety and depression, and infertility.

My goal is to be the objective voice in working with couples, women's issues , families with relationship or parenting issues, as well as teens and the issues they are facing today.
Life can be SO hard, but it can get better! Struggling with life or a relationship? Are you struggling with ANXIETY, depression, or a "transition" from empty-nest, the pain of divorce, parenting issues, loneliness, purpose, and other life-stressors? I was a child of divorce, a stay-at-home mom for 20 years before becoming a counselor, and married since 1983. I work with all couples struggling to stay together and find themselves drifting apart. I also work with parenting issues and teen life struggles. My office is a SAFE place to work through the issues of life that get us all down! Let's start!

My specialities include: Adolescents; Adult Individuals; Exposure Therapy; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy; Women's Issues ; Maternal Health, Stress Management; Self-Esteem; Conflict Resolution; Choices/Consequences; Relationship Issues; Trauma; Life Transitions; Grief and Loss; Family Therapy.
My role as a therapist is to help my clients peel back the layers of what is occurring in their life and help them work towards achieving their goals. Counseling helps us understand more effective ways to communicate, how to relate to the world around us, and how to give life a sense of meaning. It helps us identify areas that may be holding us back from our best self. I would like to learn more about how we can work through life's challenges together.

I care deeply about women's issues and pride myself on offering a supportive environment to explore pain and traumatic events.
I love working with clients who want a better understanding of the deep interior of their mental, physical, and spiritual function in relation to the world around them and the relationships they engage in. Using an eclectic and collaborative approach, the relationship I build with my clients is deeply rooted in the Humanistic tradition of treating others with unconditional positive regard. Paradoxically, many of our wounds are created in painful relationships that make us scared to trust other people, yet these wounds can only be healed within the context of relationship; therapy provides this opportunity.

My interests include: anxiety & depression (including perinatal/postpartum), life transitions, stress management, career issues, work/life balance, relationship concerns, self-esteem, self-care, women's issues , & cultural/diversity factors.
My love of therapy is rooted in the opportunity to witness and facilitate change. Perhaps you already know what in your life you'd like to change. Perhaps you are simply aware that you're not where you would like to be. Or perhaps you've had an experience you'd like to understand and get some clarity around. Therapy is a powerful and important pathway to achieving change, improving insight, and living a happier, more fulfilling, meaningful life.

You're not crazy. You make sense. I've found these words to be very powerful in my 25 years of clinical experience. Everyone has pain; all of us have gone through something. You want to know that what you are experiencing can be understood and figured out. You want some relief. As human beings, sometimes we look for relief in ways that are self-defeating or not super helpful in the long run. Whatever your experiences or current struggles, my role is to help you find your way through it. I offer online therapy as well as life coaching. (Check out my links to learn more about the difference.) You’re not crazy; you make sense.

With my history of education and work in women's issues , life transitions, body size and inclusivity, LGBTQ2IA+, and interpersonal and domestic violence, I wonder if I can support you in a way that can help you move forward in your mental health journey.
One of the most challenging steps in making a change is reaching out for help, so I’m glad you’re here. Clients I see often express feelings of overwhelm, worry, things “not going right,” and finding themselves repeating cycles they can’t seem to get out of. I hear time and time again that they’ve tried many ways to help themselves: self-help books, meditation apps, therapy social media accounts, yoga and breath work, changed their diet/exercise, and even medication management… but they still struggle. Despite these efforts, it seems like the “oomph” they’ve needed for their healing was having a space to process their thoughts.

However, I also really enjoy working with young people and women's issues as well as with anyone going through life transitions, such as divorce etc.
My ideal client would be someone who has reached the point where they realize that what they have been doing is no longer working. They understand that it is time to be open to and consider the benefits to making positive changes in their life. This person is ready to examine the areas in their life that have become blind spots, and are willing to address those blind spots in a safe, compassionate and fruitful way.

As a specialist in trauma and women's issues & as an EMDR therapist, I believe that as we explore your story and inner world, we will find the healing that you're seeking.
Is your past is a heavy weight that you're constantly carrying around? Are you tired of feeling stuck in old patterns and beliefs? You might want to start exploring some of the pain, but it's scary. What if all that you've pushed aside for so long is so overwhelming it takes over? I get it—addressing our stories can be terrifying, but maybe you’ve come to the point that you can’t push yourself aside anymore. You're too important to keep ignoring yourself. Traumatic experiences from our past can leave us feeling disconnected from the truest version of ourselves. I'm here to help you feel connected again—both to yourself and others.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
